The Pride on the Roof event we held this month was a massive success! We are so grateful to everyone who took part. A special thank you to Nikki Johnstone, a FinTech partner, who shared with us how important representation and visibility is to her:

“The profile of a typical City lawyer has changed a lot in the last ten to fifteen years. There are a lot more visible role models now and, as you become more senior, you realise the importance of seeing other professionals like you. I now try to proactively talk about the fact I am married to a woman, both with colleagues and with clients. It’s important that everyone feels comfortable talking authentically about their lives, because people feeling that they have to hide a part of themselves at work is not where I want us to be.”

We were delighted to have partner Will Samengo-Turner speak at our Pride on the Roof event his month. Will spoke eloquently on the challenges of being part of the LGBTQ+ community in the legal sector:

“A&O is one of the largest firms in the world, and what we are most proud of is our ability and eagerness to do ground-breaking work. Work that other firms have not yet done; challenges that other people have not yet tackled. And one of those challenges is that we continue to reflect those societies in which we work. I am so proud that we continue to have the groundswell of support within the firm to continue focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion.”
