A lovely evening in Copenhagen!

The IBA Annual Conference is always a busy few days, but we do like to make time for an MI get-together, and dinner has become something of a tradition.

This year, our friends and colleagues from 11 countries joined us for a relaxed evening, kindly hosted by Codex Advokater.

Good food, plenty of conversation and the pleasure of spending time together away from the busy conference schedule. It's always good to catch up with people whose company we genuinely enjoy!

A big thank you to Mikael Grosen Skovbo, Jannik Haahr Antonsen and our own Keith Heddle for getting everyone together, and to all who came along and made it such an enjoyable evening.

A useful run of events across October and November, with four very different reasons to get involved.

▪️On 6 October, Guillem Valencia of Santiago Mediano Abogados joins the MI AI Practice Group for a practical update on the EU AI Act. With the Digital Omnibus on AI now in force, Guillem will look at the amendments affecting the original Act and the issues international counsel should be watching for clients developing, deploying, procuring or using AI systems.

▪️On 7 October, the Construction Law Practice Group turns to marketing. The discussion will focus on positioning, client targeting and the mix of digital and traditional channels firms are using to build visibility and win work, with plenty of room for members to compare experiences.

▪️Then on 3 November, Harold Godsoe leads Part I of the AI Practice Group’s discussion of Ethan Mollick’s new book, Co-Existence: The Next Phase of AI. The group will look at what the book means for lawyers working alongside increasingly capable AI, including where to trust it, where to question it and where to keep hold of the keys.

▪️ We then head to St. Louis from 13 to 15 November for the Mackrell International Americas Business Meeting, hosted by Sandberg Phoenix & von Gontard PC. Lorraine Cavataio, Aaron French and Andy Ryan will welcome members to a programme built around face-to-face time, a full business day, a Gateway Arch visit and a gala dinner and tour at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery.

A good mix of practical updates, peer discussion and time together in person.

Our 2026 Emerging Leaders meeting brought members together in Houston, Texas, for a day of open discussion, shared experience and practical ideas.

From building a client base and making the most of international networks, to AI, career development, partnership, recruitment and retention, the agenda tackled many of the issues facing the next generation of legal leaders.

Just as valuable was the opportunity to compare experiences and build relationships with peers from across the MI network.

A big thank you to our Houston member firm MehaffyWeber, P.C. for hosting us, and to everyone who contributed to such a positive and useful meeting.

A good piece of media coverage should have a life beyond the week it appears.

That was the thinking behind MI in Practice, which gives strong member firm coverage a longer shelf life and shows, in practical terms, how Mackrell International works across jurisdictions.

Our first three stories feature Ernestilla, Mafita & Company Advocates in Tanzania, Ahlawat & Associates in India and BTO Solicitors LLP in Scotland, each with a different example of local expertise, international relationships and opportunities created through the network.

We’ve now brought the story together in a new LinkedIn article, including why MI in Practice was created, how it works and how member firms can be considered for future features.

Well, this turned into quite a roll call.

Across 12 Mackrell International firms in the US:

239 lawyers were recognised in the 2027 editions of The Best Lawyers in America® and Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch® in America.

133 selections were recorded in the latest regional Super Lawyers® and Rising Stars® lists.

And 11 lawyers were named “Lawyer of the Year”.
