The first reported rent appeal under the Renters' Rights Act has arrived and, while caution is needed before drawing firm conclusions from a single First-tier Tribunal decision, it offers some interesting clues about the direction of travel writes David Smith.

Most notably, the Tribunal appears to have placed significantly greater weight on evidence of actual rents achieved than on advertised asking rents. For landlords, agents and build-to-rent operators, that could prove to be one of the most important practical lessons emerging from the new regime.

Has Gianni Infantino Overplayed His Hand?
The 2026 World Cup was widely viewed as a commercial triumph, generating record revenues and strengthening Gianni Infantino's position at FIFA.

However, plans to attract up to $20 billion in private investment by selling equity linked to future World Cups triggered an extraordinary backlash from football's governing bodies writes David Little. UEFA, Concacaf and other confederations swiftly rejected the proposal, arguing that football's premier competition should not be treated as a commercial asset for sale.

With support ebbing away and calls for a review of FIFA's leadership gathering pace, the question is no longer whether the proposal has failed, but whether the damage to Infantino's standing can be repaired before the next FIFA presidential election.
