⚖️ UK CITIZENSHIP LAW UPDATE 2026
❗ Under the old rules, the "Good Character" requirement automatically disqualified applicants with past immigration breaches, labeling it a failure of "immigration morality."
However, a new Home Office guidance (effective from April 30, 2026) has officially updated the UK citizenship law. The Home Office can now overlook past illegal entry if you prove it was involuntary or beyond your control, specifically for:
- Victims of Modern Slavery: You were a victim of human trafficking or forced labor.
- Unavoidable Circumstances: You faced extreme coercion, deception, or threats.
- Minors Under 18: You were a child at the time you arrived to the UK. (Note: For kids involved in past document fraud, the 2026 rule will now check their "Good Character" much more strictly).
⚠️ CRITICAL REQUIREMENT: Your case for naturalisation might be considered if you have claimed asylum at the earliest possible opportunity upon arriving in the UK, with a watertight explanation if you passed through a safe third country.
