Moving to Spain on a nomad visa? Applying to study in Spain?
Same country. Completely different document rules.
This is the distinction that catches British applicants out more than anything else we see for Spain — and almost nobody explains it clearly.
Educational documents for a Spanish STUDY VISA must be notarised by an FCDO-registered notary public before an apostille. A solicitor certification — which is cheaper and far more widely available — will not be accepted by the Spanish consulate for this route.
Educational documents for a NOMAD VISA or other non-study visa do not require notarisation before apostille. Solicitor certification is acceptable.
The difference in cost is significant. Notarisation from £210 per document versus solicitor certification from £120 per document. The difference in consequences is more significant. A study visa application with solicitor-certified documents instead of notarised documents will be rejected. The FCDO fee is non-refundable.
Before you certify anything for Spain, confirm your visa type. Then confirm the certification route. Then submit.
