Matthew Smith, Director of Buckingham Gate has received Top Rated Adviser status for 2023 on behalf of VouchedFor

This status will be recognised in the 2023 Guide to Top Rated Financial Advisers which will be distributed nationally in The Times in March 2023.

The Guide is the biggest consumer-facing campaign of its kind and sets out to help build public trust in advice. This is important at a time when, fuelled by ongoing economic uncertainty, consumers are spending more time than ever researching advisers.

Well done!

Controlling The Inner Chimp Posted on November 7, 2022 by Matthew Smith - Uncategorised You will have to excuse the somewhat more technical nature of today’s post, however, we seem to be at a bit of an inflection point in markets with a huge volume of change going on all at once. Matthew kicks off his latest vlog by looking at the Global market indices which show a month of recovery with the FTSE as the continued outperformer. Interestingly, Matthew highlights how the strength of the Pound has limited the damage to sterling markets.

Next, Matthew looks at the performance of the European and Gilt markets which shows a particularly comforting recovery in the Gilt market in October climbing from -30% to -22% in 3 weeks. It appears that the market might be in favour of the new Prime Minister with things starting to take a turn for the better. This can be seen in the Buckingham Gate Portfolios too which are starting to improve.

What’s happening right now? Matthew shares his thoughts on the goings-on of late including topics such as the US Technology market, Sector Shifts, the new Prime Minister, the new Chancellor, and the new Budget Autumn Statement.

Lastly, Matthew talks in detail about UK Government Bonds which some may find interesting.

As many of you know, last month on the 10th of September, many members of the Buckingham Gate team took part in the Thames Bridges Trek Ultra Challenge; a 25k trek across London city, zig-zagging over 16 historic bridges, to raise money for The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

CALM is leading a movement against su***de, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. Anyone can hit a crisis point. CALM runs a free and confidential helpline and webchat 7 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone who needs to talk about their problems.

We are proud to announce that we managed to exceed our £2,000 target, and raised a whopping £3,215 for CALM!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who donated. As a team, we really appreciate it and your generosity definitely kept us motivated on the day when the aches and pains started to kick in.

The charity will be truly grateful for this donation.

Matthew kicks off his latest vlog by looking at the Global market indices which show the FTSE as the continued outperformer. Interestingly, Matthew highlights how the strength of both the Sterling Pound and the US Dollar has impacted performances.

What’s happening right now? Matthew shares his thoughts on the goings-on of late including the extreme shifts in bond and equity markets. He explains how the status quo of the past 15 years of financial history, appears to have finally come to end and that we are starting a new era!

From an action perspective, Matthew recommends several ideas which you might like to consider whilst we go through this period of change with his main advice being to simply remain vigilant.

These ‘unusual times’ may not be that unusual at all – we just lived with unusual for so long that we forgot what ‘normal’ looked like!

This month’s vlog comes quite late to you due to us pausing our email communications whilst we respected the days of mourning for our late Queen Elizabeth II.

Markets have not considerably changed since the recording of this vlog and so the information provided is still relevant.

Aptly, this month, Matthew’s vlog pays particular attention to the markets, with an extended market analysis report that looks at the performance of the global market indices as well as global market sectors that are and aren’t performing well.

As usual, Matthew takes a look at the Buckingham Gate portfolio performance year-to-date with recent movements showing the portfolios retake their rightful place in the pecking order.

Matthew provides his thoughts on the rising interest rates and inflation projections and lastly shares his recommended action plan that you might like to consider whilst we navigate this turbulent market environment.

Things you could consider:

- Review your cash saving rates.
- Review your mortgage and other borrowings to lock in low for as long as possible.
- Use the market downturn as an opportunity to deploy excess cash.

Buckingham Gate Remembering Queen Elizabeth II

Yesterday, both myself and the whole of the Buckingham Gate team were saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

As a business that started life on Buckingham Gate, barely 100 meters from Buckingham Palace, we have always felt somewhat connected to Royal Life as we witnessed the various processions, ceremonies, and comings and goings of Royal figures.

The Queen was someone who embodied so many qualities that we can all aspire to and her sense of duty and service I would suggest are almost unparalleled in modern life.

On her 21st Birthday, the Queen issued the following words:

“I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”

The Queen could not have possibly known at that point just how long her life would be or how important her service would become to so many in the UK and across the globe, however it is fair to say that she kept that promise every day for the entirety of her 70+ year reign as our Head of State.

Out of respect to the Royal Family and our clients across the UK and overseas who wish to reflect and mourn the loss of our monarch, we will be suspending the majority of client communications for a short period of time.

Rest assured we will continue to work on our client’s behalf during this time, however, we will be respecting any national days of mourning that may be announced in the coming days.
