It might be Free Will Month, but following the , Martin Lewis' show yesterday evening, we’ve been inundated with Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) enquiries today…
Mr Lewis warned that failing to arrange an LPA could create serious difficulties for families if something unexpected occurs. He described the consequences of not having a Power of Attorney in place as “frankly a nightmare” for loved ones left trying to manage affairs during a medical emergency.
Echoing his stark warning, our Head of Wills & Probabte Nicola Birchall said: "It’s important to remember that age is not the key factor here, as if someone loses mental capacity following an accident, severe stroke or other medical incident, without having completed a Power of Attorney, relatives can face long and complex legal processes. So yes, putting an LPA in place at any age, is just as important as making a Will.”
"It’s so easy to put off these arrangements but you must have the capacity to do so when you appoint your attorney or attorneys, so it’s something everyone needs to prioritise."
With that in mind, we will be running our own LPA month throughout April, with 10% discount on all new instructions.
