Due to forthcoming retirement, we are seeking an experienced Legal Cashier to join our friendly team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual with strong legal accounting experience and a sound working knowledge of the Law Society of Scotland Accounts Rules. Ideally you will be SOLAS qualified or working towards the qualification

As a Legal Cashier, you will be expected to
• Possess strong attention to detail, proficiency with legal accounting software and knowledge of the Law Society of Scotland Accounts rules
• Input and progress data accurately and promptly onto the firm’s Practice Management System
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations
• Prepare and submit VAT returns and other management reports as required
• Assist in preparing year-end accounts and liaising with external auditors
• Liaise with fee-earners regarding transactions
• Use on-line banking systems for processing payments
• Process monthly salaries and manage PAYE
• Provide audit evidence and ensure compliance with Law Society rules for client funds
• Recognise, manage and report risk effectively

• Shows highly developed organisational skills
• Is confident working with the Practice Management System
• Has a positive attitude, is numerate and methodical
• Is a team player who can also work using your own initiative

UPDATE YOUR WILL WEEK

If completing your Will is on your to-do list, you’re not alone. Lifetime Lawyers Association research shows 1 in 10 adults in the UK have started making a Will but haven’t yet finished it.

Update Your Will Week 2026 takes place from Monday 2nd to Sunday 8th March 2026 – make it the week you tick creating or updating your Will off your to-do list.

Who needs a Will?
If you’re an adult in the UK, you probably need a Will.

An up-to-date, well-drafted Will is essential if you have children, own a house or have a pension.

But Lifetime Lawyers Association research shows nearly half (49%) of adults in the UK don’t have a Will in place.

If you die without a Will, any assets that belonged to you must be distributed according to the strict rules of intestacy – which may not be how you expect or would want your estate to be shared. It can be hugely distressing for loved ones.

When should I update my Will?
Lifetime Lawyers Association recommend that Wills are reviewed and updated every five years, or when a major change occurs that impacts you or your loved ones e.g. a marriage or civil partnership, divorce or dissolution of a civil partnership, a new birth, a death in your family, or if you or one of your beneficiaries has obtained a Gender Recognition Certificate.

What should I do if I want to make a Will or update my existing Will?
A good Will is an investment – so the cheapest option might not be the best one. Some Wills are written by unregulated Will writers - they may not be watertight or they might exclude certain assets that should be included which can lead to complications in the future, and unnecessary distress and heartache for loved ones.

Creating and updating your Will with an experienced legal professional, such as a Lifetime Lawyer, ensures you have a Will that is tailored to your exact circumstances and captures your wishes accurately.

Using an experienced legal professional can also help to limit inheritance tax – which can reduce costs in the long term.

Thank you to everyone who donated at our annual charity lunch (where we raised £1,800) and to The Abbotshall Hotel who made the fundraising up to £2,000 then with a last minute further donation of £50 we ended up raising £2,050 which enabled us to buy an absolute mountain of presents this year especially with the b&m 3 for £20 deal and a generous 10% discount 🤩🎅🏼 🎄
