We recently welcomed Anna Cort, a Law student at the University of Bristol, to FMT for two weeks of work experience.

During her placement, Anna spent time across our different departments, gaining first-hand experience of life in a law firm, sitting in on client meetings and developing practical skills alongside our team.

Following her placement, we caught up with Anna to hear what she learned, which areas of law particularly interested her and how the experience has shaped her plans for a future career as a solicitor.

Anna joined us for work experience in August 2026, spending time with our team and gaining insight into working within a law firm.

The case of Rachel Fulstow has returned to the media headlines following new coverage in the Daily Mail. Fulstow is serving a 30-year minimum term under the law of joint enterprise, despite being around 100 miles away at the time of the attack. Her conviction is now the subject of a renewed challenge, with her legal team arguing that evidence concerning coercive and controlling behaviour within her relationship with Michael Hillier was not fully heard by the jury.

Jeremy Moore, solicitor and director at FMT, features in the article and is currently assisting the client with a detailed review of the case. He also recently discussed the case in the BBC documentary Killer Couple: Love on Trial.

Probate fees are increasing from 13 July 2026.

The Ministry of Justice says the change is designed to recover the true cost of providing the probate service, taking into account inflation and ongoing investment to modernise the probate system.

If you're planning to apply for probate, it's worth being aware of these changes and considering how they may affect your costs.

Many couples believe that living together gives them the same legal rights as marriage—but that's a common misconception.

The government's recent consultation on inheritance rights for unmarried couples highlights an important issue: if your partner dies without a will, you may have no automatic right to inherit, even after years together. This can put your home, finances, and family at risk.

Making a valid will is one of the simplest ways to protect your partner, provide for your loved ones, and avoid unnecessary legal disputes.

For more information, please read our latest blog post -

Cohabitation Reform. On 5 June, the government launched a consultation on reforms to strengthen the financial rights of unmarried couples.
