Are you thinking of putting a Power Of Attorney in place. The cost for registering with the Office of Public Guardian (OPG) is currently up to £110 per power. From June it will cost you up £2,000 for their fee based on the value of your estate.

More estate are likely to pass free of Inheritance Tax under the new (IHT) rules. Do you know the new rules? Will yours potentially pass IHT free? Q: Do you have children under the age of 18? What will happen to them if both their parents were to die?
A: They would be taken into care by social services until the courts could decide who would be awarded the child/ten. Possibly not the one you would want to look after them.
Q: Are you potentially putting your child/ten in this position?
A: The only way to ensure they would go to who you want them to is to write a Will.
