It's International Museum day and many Museums and Galleries have permanent collections that are free to access.
Wigan Museum, run by Wigan Council, holds over 30,000 objects relating to life in Wigan Borough, past and present. Collections include fine art, archaeology, social history, natural history, coins, decorative art and industrial history. The story of local people can be told through everyday objects like Roman pottery or 16th century pewter ware, alongside 19th century Blackpool holiday souvenirs to a German helmet from the First World War.
Warrington Museum & Art Gallery has just short of 200,000 objects covering a wide range of subjects such as Archaeology, Art, Ethnology, Natural History, Photography and Social History. While the majority of the collections relate to Warrington and the surrounding areas, some of the items are undoubtedly of national significance.
Half-term is coming and both have extra exhibitions and activities over that time, so why not check them out and give them a visit?
