LASTING POWER OF ATTORNEY

HOME VISITS THROUGHOUT LEICESTERSHIRE!!

Life can turn on its head with little warning. A thought over the kitchen table about who might help with decisions in later life can quickly become more urgent. While these conversations may feel a little uncomfortable, they are probably amongst the most important ones you will ever have.

What Is a Lasting Power of Attorney?

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you become unable to do so. There are two types of LPA.

One covers health and welfare decisions, the other covers property and financial matters such as managing your bills or property.
Many people believe their partner or children would automatically be allowed to manage things if needed. In fact, without an LPA, even close family members may need to go through lengthy legal processes during already difficult times. An LPA gives you the chance to plan ahead, reduce uncertainty and provide peace of mind to your loved ones.

Far more than just a legal safety net, an LPA gives you the chance to set out what matters to you most. Whether it is your daily routine, the type of care you would prefer or how your money is managed, it allows your wishes to guide the decisions made on your behalf.

In the UK, with our ageing population and a stretched NHS already managing increasing care needs, planning ahead is more important than ever. That is why the Office of the Public Guardian urges early consideration of LPAs, especially for those living with long-term conditions.

Advice With a Personal Touch, Where It Matters Most

Legal forms and confusing phrases can put anyone off. For many people, having to visit a solicitor’s office can be a bother and somewhat intimidating. Gerard James Estate Planning Ltd offer appointments in the comfort of your own home throughout Leicestershire, to provide a familiar and relaxed setting where we can talk through everything at your own pace.

These visits are not just about filling in paperwork. They are about listening carefully to your concerns, explaining legal terms in plain language and helping you feel informed and confident.

As a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), you can be reassured you are getting high-quality support tailored to your situation.

Taking the First Step

You do not need to wait for a crisis to start thinking about your future. In fact, acting early makes everything simpler for you and those you care about. A calm conversation today may save a great deal of difficulty tomorrow.

Taking that first step with expert support can offer both clarity and control. Think of it as a wise and thoughtful gift to those you love.

Are your complicated family circumstances putting you off making a Will?

I had an interesting conversation this morning with a tradesman working on my property. He told me that he has never made a Will, mainly because his family circumstances are somewhat complicated. He is in his second marriage and has two children with his current wife and three children from his previous marriage. His current wife also has a child from her first marriage.

I briefly explained the importance of having a Will and that in his circumstances it would be beneficial to look at including a trust within the Will, to provide for the surviving spouse but also to protect assets for their respective children.

Yes his circumstances are more complicated, but even more of a reason to put appropriate planning in place! Hopefully he will give me a call!!

If you know anyone in similar circumstances I would be happy to have a chat with them on 0790 5748073.
