Leicester once had several lidos... and it looked like this ๐ŸŠ

Back in the 1930s, the Leicester Lido was one of the city's most exciting attractions. On hot summer days, families would flock there to swim, sunbathe, relax and enjoy a day out by the water.

This poster promised much more than just a swimming pool โ€” there were gardens, a cafรฉ, sun terraces and space to spend an entire afternoon with friends and family.

Imagine a summer's day before air conditioning, smartphones or streaming services. For many Leicester residents, the Lido was the place to cool off and make memories.

Today, it's hard to imagine Leicester having its own outdoor leisure resort, but for a generation of locals, the Lido was a treasured part of city life.

Would you like to see Leicester bring back an outdoor lido?

Who remembers nights out at The George? ๐Ÿป

Long before today's bars and chain pubs, The George was one of Leicester city centre's best-known meeting spots. Sitting beside the Haymarket, it was where friends gathered after work, shoppers stopped for a drink, and countless nights out began.

Looking at this photo, you can almost picture the busy pavements, the packed pub on a Friday evening, and the familiar faces heading through those doors week after week.

For many Leicester locals, places like The George weren't just pubs โ€” they were landmarks. Everyone knew where they were, everyone had a story, and everyone arranged to "meet at The George."

The building may have changed over the years, but the memories remain.

Did you ever have a drink in The George, or use it as your meeting point in town?

This wasn't just a shop... it was a Leicester institution ๐Ÿฌ

For generations of Leicester families, Lewis's was more than a department store. It was where people bought their first school uniform, searched for Christmas presents, met friends in town, and spent a Saturday afternoon browsing the latest fashions.

Standing proudly above the city streets, the famous Lewis's sign became one of Leicester's most recognisable landmarks. You could spot it from across the city centre and instantly know you were in the heart of town.

Looking at this photograph, it's easy to imagine the trams rattling below, shoppers filling the pavements, and the buzz of a city centre at its busiest.

The building may have changed, but for many Leicester locals, Lewis's remains a powerful reminder of a different era of shopping.

What are your memories of Lewis's?

What I found on this walk genuinely surprised me. ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I set out to explore Coleman Close, but along the way I stumbled across unexpected traces of the old Nottingham railway line.

What made it even more interesting was seeing a side of Leicester that most people never notice from a car or bus. Hidden paths, forgotten details, and little clues to the city's past were right there in plain sight.

Sometimes, slowing down and walking is the best way to uncover Leicester's history.

Watch until the end and see what I found along the route.

Have you ever spotted any remains of the old Nottingham line?

Could parking make or break a house sale? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿก

For many buyers, parking isn't just a bonusโ€”it's a necessity.

A driveway, garage, or reliable on-street parking can make a property far more attractive, especially in busy areas where spaces are limited. In some cases, good parking can even add value and help a home sell faster.

How important is parking to you when looking for a home?

Friday night in Leicester once looked like this ๐ŸŽฌ

This was the Cameo Cinema on High Street in June 1971 โ€” a place where film lovers gathered long before Netflix, smartphones, or streaming services existed.

The glowing signs, film posters outside, and bustle of the city centre made a trip to the pictures feel like a real occasion. Whether it was a first date, a family outing, or simply escaping into another world for a few hours, cinemas like the Cameo played a huge part in Leicester life.

Looking at this photo now, it's not just the building that stands out โ€” it's a reminder of a time when entertainment brought people together in person.

The cinema may be gone, but the memories made there still live on.

Did you ever visit the Cameo, or remember what was showing there?

Remember when a trip to the cinema felt like an event? ๐ŸŽฌ

This was Leicester's Picture House cinema, seen from Granby Street in the 1970s.

Long before streaming services and giant multiplexes, places like this were where Leicester families spent their weekends. The bright lights, film posters, queues outside, and the excitement of seeing the latest release made a night at the pictures something special.

For many locals, the Picture House wasn't just a cinema โ€” it was part of growing up, first dates, family outings, and unforgettable memories in the city centre.

Today, Granby Street looks very different, but this photograph captures a time when the cinema stood at the heart of Leicester's entertainment scene.

Did you ever visit the Picture House, or remember what stood here before?

This little shop was once a big part of everyday life in Leicester ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Before supermarkets, online shopping, and retail parks, local families relied on neighbourhood shops like The Three Sisters in Highfields.

Selling everything from baby linen and wool to hosiery and household essentials, it wasn't just a place to shop โ€” it was where neighbours met, conversations started, and community life happened.

Looking at this photo, it's easy to imagine the sound of footsteps on the pavement, shopkeepers greeting regular customers, and children being sent out with a few coins and a shopping list.

Today, many of these independent shops have disappeared, but photos like this help keep their stories alive.

Do you remember shopping in Highfields, or hearing stories about shops like this?

This massive carpark hides a forgotten railway ๐Ÿš†

Most people park here without giving it a second thought.

But years ago, this very spot was part of Leicester's railway network, with trains passing through where rows of cars now sit. The tracks have long since disappeared, replaced by tarmac and parking spaces, but the route's history is still beneath our feet.

It's fascinating how quickly a place can change. What was once built to move people across the country now serves a completely different purpose, and many pass through without ever knowing its story.

Have you ever used this carpark and known about its railway past?
