WE MADE IT! 🎉970.5 miles completed — smashing our 750‑mile pledge!

Our team has officially arrived at the iconic Trevi Fountain ⛲

This challenge was part of Miles in May, supporting AvMA (Action against Medical Accidents) — a charity dedicated to patient safety and justice.

Every mile helped raise awareness for an incredibly important cause. ❤️

From Barcelona to Rome, this journey has been powered by teamwork, determination, and hundreds upon hundreds of steps. 👏

Thank you to everyone who took part, tracked miles, encouraged teammates, and helped us reach the virtual finish line.

Last night’s BBC Panorama programme examining maternity care at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust was difficult but important viewing.

Hannah Carr, Legal Director at MDS, notes in her blog piece below that the experiences shared by families are a stark reminder that maternity safety must remain a national priority. Whilst individual cases differ, the themes that are emerging from Nottingham echo concerns identified in previous maternity investigations across the NHS, including failures in communication, escalation, listening to families and learning from adverse outcomes. https://moosaduke.com/news-insights/maternity-failures-the-fight-for-justice

With the final Ockenden Review findings due later this month, there is renewed focus on the need for meaningful cultural and systemic change within maternity services.

Behind every investigation are families whose lives have been permanently changed by avoidable harm. What should have been lives filled with hope and happiness can instead become lives overshadowed by grief, trauma and unanswered questions.

What a week for Team MDS, another 256.65 miles completed, bringing our total to an incredible 728.95 miles in May.

Along the way, we’ve hit some huge milestones on our virtual journey through Italy:

🌊 500 miles — Reaching the colourful cliffs of Cinque Terre
🍕 600 miles — Arriving at the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa
🏛️ 700 miles — Stepping into history at the mighty Colosseum

Only a few days until the end of the challenge and our grand finale!!!

The recent meningitis cases reported in Reading are a timely reminder of how serious and fast-moving this condition can be. While meningitis can affect anyone, babies, young children and teenagers are particularly vulnerable, and early recognition of symptoms is vital.

What a week. After a gentle start, the team have absolutely powered through 310.1 miles, hitting some incredible milestones along our virtual Mediterranean route.

🌉 200 miles — Pont du Gard
🏰 300 miles — Palais des Papes
🏁 400 miles — We’ve arrived at the iconic Circuit de Monaco 🏎️

We’re officially ahead of schedule — which sadly means we’ll miss the Formula 1, but who knows what adventures lie ahead.

Total Miles in May so far: 472.3 and climbing.
