Campaign group Pregnant Then Screwed and Women in Data has reported 12.3% of women are sacked, constructively dismissed, or made redundant while pregnant, on maternity leave or within a year of returning.

Redundancy protections for pregnant employees and new parents are now expanding.

This means employees who are pregnant, on maternity leave or recently returned have priority for suitable alternative roles in a redundancy situation. Failure to do so can make a dismissal automatically unfair.

The ‘protected period’ for pregnant employees and new parents is also longer than before.

If you’re planning a restructure or redundancy process, speak to our employment solicitors today by emailing [email protected].

Employers can face penalties if they fail to act on third-party harassment of employees.

If an employee is harassed by a customer, client or a member of the public this is known as third-party harassment.

There is growing pressure for clearer protection with numerous employers asking whether new obligations are on the way.

While there is no current law for this type of harassment, employers are still liable if they fail to act.
