Our colleagues Simon Woods and Alex Gresty have been incredibly busy on their journey to becoming fully qualified UK and European patent attorneys!

Here’s a quick update on their progress…

Simon started the UK patent exam process with a UK foundation course at Queen Mary University back in September 2022. Fast forward to March 2026, and he received the results for his final exams, making him a fully qualified UK patent attorney!

Alex sat her first set of exams in January 2026. After passing them with flying colours, she's now a part-qualified UK patent attorney! She’s now looking ahead to the next stages of both her UK and European qualifications.

Simon and Alex have both worked exceptionally hard, and we couldn't be prouder of them here at Bailey Walsh!

Securing patent protection is a major milestone, but it's not the finish line.

Once granted, and occasionally while still pending, you'll need to actively maintain your patent application by paying renewal fees to the relevant national or regional patent office.

For example, in the UK, you’ll need to renew up to the last day of the month of the due date to avoid late payment fees. You'll be given a six-month grace period to renew after the due date, but you'll need to pay additional late fees for each extra month.

What a brilliant time we've had at the International Trademark Association (INTA) 2026 annual meeting!

Our team thoroughly enjoyed meeting with brand leaders and reconnecting with fellow IP professionals from across the globe.
