University of Leeds Justice Project

University of Leeds Justice Project The University of Leeds Justice Project is an educational project for students. The project investigates cases of suspected wrongful convictions.

The project provides free assistance to applicants, who maintain that they have suffered a wrongful conviction, in completing an application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission. If you are a student at Leeds, the project gives you the opportunity to do investigative work into real cases, supervised by academics and in conjunction with practicing solicitors. Investigating real cases provides in

sight into the workings of the criminal justice system. The Project gives you the chance to develop your creativity, and hone your communication, teamwork and negotiation skills. It will also give you experience of resource management and networking.

Law and Criminal Justice Students:

Are you interested in potential miscarriages of justice? If the answer is yes, the Justice Project may be something you should apply to!

What is the Justice Project?

The Justice Project is an educational project promoting enterprise skills for law and criminal justice students. The Project's aim is to investigate real cases where wrongful convictions are suspected and to ensure that such cases are successfully brought to the attention of the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC). Students work in groups, reading and responding to letters sent by prisoners to the Project. They advise the prisoners whether the Project team can assist them and why/why not.

If you're interested and would like to apply, please log on to your VLE. From the VLE, access the 'organisations' tab, Click 'Law', 'Personal Development and Careers', 'Pro Bono & Volunteering' and then finally 'School of Law Opportunities'. If you scroll down, you'll be able to find a 'Team application form' and further details as to the application and who to send it to.
