For motorbike enthusiasts, it's never about the destination – it's all about the journey.

However, all motorcyclists are acutely aware that even the trip of a lifetime is not without its risks.

According to recent data published by the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.3 million people die and millions more are injured or disabled as a result of road traffic incidents each year.

The statistics are even more concerning for motorcyclists, with nearly 30% of all road traffic fatalities involving two-and three-wheel vehicles.

If you or a family member has been injured in a motorbike accident overseas, our accident abroad specialists are here to help. Contact one of our experts today on 03330 608 194 for a free, no-obligation discussion.

Last week, we held our first ‘football shirt Friday’ to mark the return of Premier League action – and, more importantly, to raise funds for House of Light Hull.

With Hudgells proudly based in three Premier League cities – Hull, Manchester and Newcastle – our team embraced the opportunity to swap office wear for sportswear and come together for a bake sale to benefit a fantastic cause.

House of Light – where our Director of Risk and Compliance, Lauren Dale, is a trustee – provides invaluable support to families affected by birth trauma, the loss of a child, fertility challenges, and antenatal or postnatal depression and anxiety.

Through compassionate guidance, practical assistance and a caring community, the charity helps families navigate some of life's most difficult and emotional experiences.

Thanks to the generosity of colleagues across the firm, we raised more than £100 for House of Light 👏

We are proud to announce an exciting new community partnership with Goole Vikings RLFC 🏉

Hudgells will work alongside the Vikings on a range of initiatives across Goole and East Yorkshire – with a particular focus upon young people, inclusion and grassroots sport.

Helen Saunders, head of marketing for Hudgell Solicitors, said: “This isn't simply about putting our name alongside the Vikings – we want to get involved, support the work already taking place and help create opportunities for even more people to be part of the club as it continues to grow.”

Goole Vikings director James Clark added: "Hudgells have a fantastic track record of supporting local projects and strong values at heart, which aligns perfectly with what we're building in Goole.

“Their support will help us create more opportunities for young people and make a genuine difference across our community.”

We were proud matchday sponsors for Hull KR's community round on Saturday, a celebration of rugby league at grassroots level and the people who make the game so special.

The community round is always a highlight of the season and reflects our shared commitment with Hull KR and the Hull KR Foundation to recognising and supporting those whose dedication helps strengthen the local game and local communities.

Supporters attending the match enjoyed a range of free Hudgells giveaways, including flags, hero heads and team posters, while we were delighted to join in recognising the winners of the Community Awards and celebrating their outstanding contributions to the sport.

The day also provided an opportunity to host many of our local business supporters, who each year take part in our Corporate Touch Rugby Tournament in support of local charities.

It was a fantastic evening, and congratulations once again to award winners Robert, Arthur, Fiona, Florence and everyone at Lambwath Lions ARLFC.

Sam Thompson, senior litigation executive and team leader at Hudgell Solicitors, secured a compensation package of £90,000 for a client who suffered long-term injuries after a drill fell from a nine-metre ladder and damaged his left leg.

The window and door fitter from Hull, who was allowed on site wearing shorts, inadvertently bumped into the base of an extension ladder as he crouched to fix the entrance of a detached home in nearby Kirk Ella.

The drill, which was left unattended by a colleague, was consequently shunted from the top of the ladder and dropped to the floor – with its eight-millimetre-long bit puncturing his left calf.

Ms Thompson said: “This is yet another timely reminder that, when it comes to PPE and basic health and safety regulations, no stone should be left unturned.

“If not, and as our client’s case proved, the consequences can be far-reaching for both employees and employers.”

Continued delays in investigating the prosecutions of former sub-postmasters by the Department for Work and Pension (DWP) is becoming a 'scandal within a scandal', says Vicky Richardson, part of our dedicated Post Office claims legal team.

She spoke to Channel 5 News as a year has passed since the DWP pledged to conduct an independent review into around 100 prosecutions, but still no reviewer has been appointed.

The DWP claims the prosecutions it pursued were justified and not based on evidence from the discredited Horizon software, which was used by the Post Office to pursue hundreds of convictions.

"These people are no further on, 12 months after a review was announced. That is a great source of upset and worry for people," she said.

"Our view is these are decent, hard-working people.

"Their convictions are not safe and they need to be investigated."

"Resilience is not about being unbroken, it’s about learning how to live with the breaks."

Today, the UK observed its first ‘National Day for Victims and Survivors of Terrorism’.

The ceremony in London brought together victims, survivors and bereaved families affected by acts of terrorism.

These included survivors of the Manchester Arena Bombing in 2017 and the 7/7 London bombings.

Solicitor Terry Wilcox, who specialises in public inquiries and inquests and has worked closely with families of the Manchester Arena attack, has now called upon government to provide greater assistance to anyone affected by terrorist attacks.

He said: “Victims of every terror attack should be provided with support, whether that is in the form of medical treatment or financial assistance.

“Currently victims wait years for any meaningful support.

“This must change if a culture of fear and dread generated by the act of terrorism is to be defeated.”
