The families of the victims of the 2023 Nottingham attacks today gave their reaction to evidence heard at the Public Inquiry – saying killer Valdo Calocane – who had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2020 – went on to kill Barney Webber, Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Ian Coates as ‘every single agency failed’.

The families said ‘excuses stop here and accountability starts today’, as they called for ‘heads to roll’ for people failing to ‘do their jobs properly and protect the public’.

Executive Chairman Neil Hudgell praised the families, saying: "The families continue to fight on many fronts. For truth, accountability and change. In the face of cover up and subterfuge."

Senior Associate Solicitor Tracy Stansfield is reaching new heights as she gets ready for her Mont Blanc trek in support of Day One Trauma Support 🏔️🥾

Tracy’s set herself a challenge that’s as demanding as it is inspiring: covering three miles (the approximate elevation of Mont Blanc itself) every day for 30 days.

Week three of Tracy’s prep has shown what she’s made of. As well as three 5k runs – including a guest appearance with the weekly Run Club at our Hull Office – and three 5k walks (which she’s varied up with medicine balls and ankle weights), Saturday saw Tracy tackle Pen-y-ghent in the Yorkshire Dales.

Donna Jobling, 58, from Hull, has told how she is still often unable to get out of bed on many days, 12 months after contracting Legionnaires’ disease on holiday in Crete.

Mrs Jobling spent 16 days in an induced coma in Greece, and then weeks in hospital back in the UK. She was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), a rare but serious autoimmune disorder. Her husband Sid, 70, has effectively become her full-time carer. On the rare occasion she is able to venture out, she needs a wheelchair, as she is unable to walk any significant distance.

As part of a legal claim led by our specialist lawyers at Hudgell Solicitors, representatives of holiday company easyJet is still to confirm whether it is willing to accept liability for Mrs Jobling contracting Legionnaires’ disease whilst at the all-inclusive Sergios Hotel in Hersonissos, and the impact it has had on her life. It has agreed to cover the cost of regular physiotherapy sessions, but is yet to agree to providing occupational therapy support, which has been requested.

Under three weeks til the Three Peaks 🥾

In 18 days’ time, a valiant group of our colleagues will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for our charity partners Day One Trauma Support.

The Hudgells hiking squad will be completing the 38km trek up (and down!) Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough with a 12-hour time target.

As platinum sponsors of Hull & East Yorkshire PFC, it was great to catch up with the team last month.

Helen and Paul from our marketing team attended a commercial partners' training session - experiencing first-hand what it's like to play football in a power wheelchair, while chatting to the players and their families to understand how much the sport positively impacts lives.

As we continue to raise funds and awareness for this wonderful organisation, we sent a team to take part in the club's annual footgolf event, in collaboration with the 360, Chartered Accountants Foundation. Our squad played nine holes of footgolf and finished a creditable 7th out of 22 – not a bad day at the office for Team Hudgells.

Senior Associate Solicitor Tracy Stansfield is literally going the extra mile as she gears up for her Mont Blanc charity trek in aid of Day One Trauma Support 🏔️🥾

Now into her second week of prep, Tracy’s really picking up the pace. She’s taking on an impressive training challenge: covering three miles every single day for 30 days, mirroring the mighty height of Mont Blanc itself.

Week two saw Tracy power through a 7k fell run to Stoodley Pike. She also clocked up SIX 5k walks, including a scenic stroll around Hollingworth Lake while pushing her grandson in his pram, and a multi-tasking mission while carrying a birthday bun for her son 🎂 Now that’s what you call taking the cake!

Week three is just around the corner – what will she tackle next? 👀
