Why US visas and ESTAs can be cancelled without warning
Recent reporting suggests that since Donald Trump began his second term, more than 100,000 US visas have been revoked.
Do you know some of the reasons a US visa or ESTA can be cancelled?
• Arrests that weren’t disclosed, including those that happened in the US
• Not being able to show strong ties to your home country
• Previous travel to countries on the US travel ban list
• A past visa overstay
• Being refused entry on a previous trip
• And sometimes… no clear reason at all
That last one catches many people out. There are increasing reports of travellers who meet the published requirements, have kept their political views private, and have travelled before without issue, yet still find their visa or ESTA cancelled without warning.
