Saw a really interesting post from on LinkedIn around hiring trends and candidate conversion 👀

And honestly, a lot of it lines up with what we’re seeing day to day.

The challenge for businesses now isn’t necessarily attracting applicants.

It’s getting the right people genuinely engaged in the opportunity and keeping momentum throughout the process.

Some of the stats were pretty eye-opening:

📉 Offer acceptance rates have dropped from 74% in Q2 2023 to 51% in Q2 2025
📉 35% of candidates are reneging on accepted offers
📉 25% of employers report new hires not showing up on Day 1
📉 34% of Gen Z admit to accepting offers they never intended to honour

And honestly, that shift isn’t great for anyone.

Recruitment takes time, energy and commitment from both sides, so candidates dropping out late in the process or accepting offers they never intended to take creates frustration all round.

Feels like communication, transparency and candidate experience matter more than ever now.

Interesting to see how quickly the market dynamics have changed.

đŸ”„ HOT JOBS đŸ”„

A few roles we are working on right now that are worth knowing about 👇

✔ Branch Office Manager
✔ Mortgage & Protection Adviser
✔ Property Sales Consultant
✔ Property Manager

Most of these conversations are happening before anything ever hits a job board.

So if you are even slightly open to what else is out there, it is worth a chat.

Job hunting can feel like a full-time job in itself 😅

The nerves, the second guessing, the endless tabs open
 we’ve all been there.

Really pleased we could play a part in helping someone land a role that genuinely feels right for them.

It’s a big decision, so being trusted with that process always means a lot 🙏

The Fair Work Agency is now live, and enforcement is starting to step up.

From what we’re seeing, it’s not really about new rules catching people out.

It’s more the things that naturally build up over time 👀

📃 contracts that haven’t been reviewed in a while
đŸ’” payroll processes that have evolved as teams have grown
❌ policies that haven’t quite kept pace
⚙ systems that don’t fully align

Nothing unusual, just the reality of running a busy business.

But with more visibility on this now, it’s probably a good time for a quick sense-check.

Especially if things have grown or changed recently.

Stop dressing up a dead-end role as an “opportunity.” People can tell because they’re not stupid.

Too many job adverts are still wrapped in vague promises and ‘fast-paced environment’ language when what they actually mean is:

👉 they’re not offering any real progression
👉 there are unclear expectations
👉 it’s a role that hasn’t evolved in years

Then they wonder why people aren’t excited to apply. Baffling. 🙄

The reality is that the talent of today is far more switched on than it’s given credit for. People can spot recycled job descriptions and roles that file gaps a mile off, and when they do they move swiftly on.

From my experience, jobseekers aren’t just looking for a job anymore. What they actually want is direction and an opportunity that actually leads somewhere.

If you’re struggling to attract the right people, it might not be a ‘talent shortage,’ it might actually be a messaging problem.

If a role you’re trying to fill is genuinely good, you shouldn’t need to over-sell it. If you do
 it probably isn’t.

We’ve lost track of how times hiring managers have told me they’ve invited an applicant to an interview and they’ve had the silent treatment. đŸ‘»

No reply or no decline. Just a really obvious silence.

Over the years, we've had loads of great conversations with job-seekers who seem so excited about a role and are keen to hear more, only for them to disappear the moment we send the details they’ve asked for.

Same with interviews. All enthusiasm beforehand
 then nothing. 🙄

At this point, it’s either:

1. there’s a Bermuda Triangle specifically for people who’ve spoken to recruiters
or
2. basic manners are taking a really big hit

We know where our money’s going.

The reality is, it’s often easier for people to ignore a call or message than to send a quick ‘thanks, but no thanks.’ But people remember, so if you’ve ghosted someone before, don’t be surprised if they’re not exactly rolling out the red carpet for you later down the line.

“We’ll put the feelers out.” 👎

That’s a phrase you’ll never hear coming from Harte Recruitment.

Mainly because
we wouldn’t even know where to start with that. 😜 And what does it even mean anyway??

From what we gather, it usually translates to recruiters firing out CVs randomly with no real plan and hoping for the best.

Is that what you’d want from someone ‘helping’ you move forwards in your career? Or would you rather work with a recruiter who actively represents you and promotes your experience properly?

When you work with Harte, we’re clear on the plan, how we’ll consult, where we’ll target, and how we’ll open up real opportunities for you. There won’t be any sneaky LinkedIn profiles sent behind closed doors because we’ll stick to what we say we’ll do for you.

It’s frustrating to say, but too often standards slip in recruitment. When they do, it’s people looking for new roles who are affected first, which is when those ‘feelers’ start appearing. đŸ˜±

Let’s talk about commuting.

Commuting can take so much out of the day, so it really needs to be taken into account when thinking about work-life balance. 🚗

Long journeys eat into family time, hobbies, and make the working day much longer than it really needs to be.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re bring the subject of commuting to the table because it needs to be an important part of the conversation.

Think about a really bad day you’ve had at work. Then consider whether you’d have felt better having a quick journey home, or one that took ages. đŸ„Ž

In a world where we’re expected to meet the demands of parenting and our careers simultaneously, shorter commutes can make a huge difference to stress levels and overwhelm.

This is one of the reasons why we love filling roles in our northern postcode. We don’t want people to miss out on family life, lighter evenings and other commitments and obligations. There are of course, situations when longer travel times are necessary, but if you’re ready to look for a new opportunity closer to home, we’d love to help. đŸ€Ž

We talk a lot about salary transparency, but what about maternity pay? đŸ€”

It’s one of the biggest financial factors someone will face in their career, but it’s rarely made clear during the hiring process.

In 2026, that feels really outdated.

If companies are serious about attracting talent and keeping it, doesn’t it make sense to be upfront about this sort of information?

So, we want to know

Should maternity pay be made more obvious in the recruitment process?

a) Yes, definitely
b) No, that should come later
c) Depends on the situation
