It’s not all hard work for our trainees. Sometimes we get to play too. Here’s one of our trainees, Iona, enjoying herself at Central and East Dealmakers awards last week.

One of the great things about being a trainee at HP is you get to experience events outside of the office!

James’ thoughts:

“As the end of my seat approaches, I have been reflecting on what I have done well and areas of improvement. When writing your training contract applications, whilst it’s important to draw attention to your strengths, don’t be afraid to acknowledge that you are not perfect. We all have weaknesses and being able to identify them is an important skill. Self-awareness shows maturity and humility - two qualities that are highly valued in any law firm.”

Meet Haleema – a first seat trainee in the Insolvency and Corporate Recovery team in Northampton.

Her hobbies include travelling, especially back to Southern Spain to keep her Spanish at the level she spoke it at whilst on her year abroad, going for long walks in the sun, picnics and boxing. At the weekend, Haleema spends as much time as she can with her 1 year old nephew and her family. She enjoys spending time with her friends also, and as many of them live in Europe, she has the chance to spend weekends in different European cities often.

Haleema will have been in Insolvency for 18 months by the end of her first seat, so she is looking forward to seeing the other side to a law firm: transactional work. Haleema is keen to try out a property or corporate/commercial related seat to see if she enjoys contentious work more than transactional work.

Yesterday, Howes Percival trainees Tom Bailey and Daniel Gilbert took part in a 5-a-side tournament at The Nest in Norwich with senior colleagues. Whilst Howes Percival didn’t bring the trophy home, it was a great afternoon raising money for the Community Sports Foundation.
