**1st and 2nd year Essay Competition**
We are delighted to announce that we are running a brand new essay competition aimed at 1st and 2nd year students with a magnificent prize!

There are 3 essays to choose from:
(1)“To what extent are the emergency procedures used to enact the Coronavirus Act 2020 and/or the Coronavirus (Scotland) Act 2020 a justified extension of the executive’s power and a limitation on Parliament’s?”

(2)'The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilised community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others.’ Critically assess to what extent this principle applies to UK drug laws.

(3)”Given the current context of decreasing marriage rates, is it justified that the law doesn’t afford the same rights to cohabiting couples as it does to married couples?”

The winner shall receive a shadowing experience with Shepherd & Wedderburn as well as publication in the final Law Review. This would be a fantastic CV booster and would stand you in good stead when it comes to applying for internships and training contracts.

Entry is open to all 1st and 2nd year Scots and Common Law students as well as those on the 1st year of the accelerated programme. Submissions should be between 1500-2000 words (excluding footnotes) and sent to [email protected] Submissions are open until 10pm on Sunday March 13th.

We have also attached a suggested reading list for each of the essays: https://gla-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/personal/2350864c_student_gla_ac_uk/Ecf41LCWZ6VLrCG8ef70iAEBlVZL0DeYVdRpIRG767O34w?e=V01CtJ
