Here’s 4 things to look out for when someone else gives you their Contract⬇️

Business isn’t just about your terms and conditions

You should always take the time to read it over - is it one sided in their favour or is it fair to both of you?

1. What are they giving you? Does it align with the initial conversation and quote they have provided you - are they clear and have they listened to You

2. Payment Terms - do they align with your business? If they insist on 30 day terms to pay You, this will most likely roll onto 60 days or even 90 days (this is the time to negotiate)! Extra bonus - always get the name of the person who pays the invoices!

3. Notice/Cancellation - are they tying you into a ridiculous amount of time - the norm is 30 days so if anyone asks you to accept a long notice period ask them why

4. Refunds and Deposits - what are their terms around refunding you? Does it state No refunds irrelevant of any circumstances? Always check this!

Always read over a Contract that you have been given because you never know what surprises you may get

Should I refund 🤔

This is a question I get asked a lot!

Irrelevant of what is in your terms and conditions it comes down to your morals and integrity (in the first instance)!

If you work with Consumers (Mr Joe Bloggs) and you do not have t’s and c’s Mr Bloggs can ask for a refund up to 12 months after you have provided the service 😳

If you do have t’s and c’s make sure you have the 14 day cooling off period - if you don’t Trading Standards will be knocking on your door!

If you work B2B make sure your refund policy is clear - this aligns with your notice of cancellation in your t’s and c’s

If you get asked for to many refunds then there’s something wrong with the service you are providing!

EVERYTHING in relation to refunds must be clear - if not your client will pick up on it!

Don’t risk your reputation by telling your client “Your not getting a refund” unless you have evidence to back that up

6 harsh truths when you don’t give your clients your terms and conditions

❌they don’t know what you are doing for them
❌ they don’t know when you are invoicing them
❌you haven’t given them a cancellation period (which means they can cancel anytime & there’s nothing you can do!
❌they can ask for a refund
❌they don’t recommend you
❌you're on WhatsApp or email assuring your client that you are “on it”

The list goes on!

Clients need re assurance that they are investing in the right person

They want to know they are handing their money over to someone who is professional, honest and knows their s**t!

How my client handled his overdue invoice ⬇️

When one of your clients haven’t paid your invoices you have to take the emotion out of it

When my client came to me he was owed just under ÂŁ5k from one client

I asked for a copy of his t’s and c’s but unfortunately he didn’t have any 🤦‍♀️

I contacted the debtor and not surprisingly I got the response that he “didn’t owe the money” because my client “just added on numbers without telling” him 😳

When I checked all the back and forth emails and messages I could tell that both of them where using emotion instead of being professional!

My client actually got a bit irate with me because I told him what he didn’t want to here (am not a people pleaser and I don’t give you bulls**t!!)

Finally, I got that money in from the debtor but that was because I took my client of the situation, took out the emotion and spoke professionally with the debtor, stating the facts!

He then paid within 24 hours 😀

Don’t get emotional - stay professional and state the facts!
