In today's Scotsman, Pat Thom talks about how the legal aid system is financially unstable. Scotland’s legal aid solicitors earn are earning less than minimum wage in some cases – and it’s creating a crisis for those in need

Legal aid has long been a pillar of justice, ensuring everyone - regardless of income - has access to representation. However:

⚖️ Legal aid solicitors are earning less than minimum wage for some matters.
⚖️ Many are being forced to take on fewer cases or reduce time per client.
⚖️ One-third of legal aid solicitors are set to retire in the next decade, with too few trainees to replace them.

The result? Thousands of vulnerable people could be left without legal representation when they need it most.

If legal aid collapses, access to justice in Scotland will no longer be a right - it will be a privilege.

The pilot Fund to Leave is officially closing in a month. Women experiencing domestic abuse in Scotland in the pilot program areas have till the 31st of March to apply for up to £1,000 to pay for the essentials they need to leave an abusive partner.

We are currently recruiting for Child Development Officers to help us deliver high-quality early learning and childcare in our nurseries.

As part of our Supply Pool, successful candidates have the chance to work in nurseries all over the city. Most of our nurseries are open all year round from 8am to 6pm so you will be required to work on a shift pattern between those hours.

Child Development Officers support the development of our youngest children through the planning, preparation, and delivery of stimulating learning experiences - promoting each child’s independence, competence, confidence, and most of all, helping them to have fun by learning through play.

As part of one of our teams you will also work with families as well as other education, health, and social care professionals who support children.

Applicants must have a relevant qualification such as the HNC Childhood Practice at SCQF Level 7 (formerly HNC Early Education and Childcare) or SVQ Social Services Children and Young People at SCQF Level 7, or other relevant qualification, as required by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for registration as a practitioner in the day care of children's services.

This position is subject to membership of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.

Location: Various areas throughout the City
Salary: £29,218.79 - £33,052.72 per year
