WOMEN IN LAW’S JUSTICE FOR PALESTINE STATEMENT
The University of Edinburgh’s Women in Law Society (hereinafter, WIL) soundly stands with the Edinburgh University Justice for Palestine Society (hereinafter, EUJPS).
We support and reaffirm EUJPS’s advocating to end Israeli occupation and ensure Palestinian sovereignty. The University of Edinburgh remain divesting in firms affiliated with funding the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Many of these companies are explicitly involved in sustaining Israel’s unlawful use of force against Palestinians.
As a society we aim to promote justice, the rule of law and accountability. Yet, international legal standards, including those that prohibit the targeting of civilians, collective punishment and the occupation of land by force, are being systematically violated in Palestine.
Such actions are a direct breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights.
Devastatingly, the women and children of Palestine often bear the heaviest burdens of loss, displacement and instability. WIL affirm that gender inequality and human rights are deeply intertwined - and that justice cannot exist while oppression and impunity persist.
We shall not be silenced.
