Today we're introducing Steven Hill, Managing Director of Denovo and one of Scotland's leading voices in legal technology.

With more than 20 years of experience supporting the legal sector, Steven has played a key role in the development of Denovo's market-leading case management, legal accounts and outsourced cashroom solutions, helping law firms across the UK improve efficiency, compliance and performance.

Combining extensive expertise in legal accounting, business operations and technology, Steven has built a strong reputation for delivering practical solutions to the challenges facing modern legal practices.

An accredited Legal Technologist with the Law Society of Scotland, Steven is also a regular contributor to industry conferences, seminars and legal technology discussions, sharing insights on innovation and the future of the profession.

Meet the judges behind the Scottish Legal Awards.

Today we're shining a spotlight on Julie McConnell, Business Development & Marketing Director at Brodies LLP.

With more than 20 years of experience spanning legal practice, business development and marketing, Julie brings a unique perspective to the Scottish Legal Awards judging panel. Having practised as a lawyer in both Scotland and Australia, she has developed a deep understanding of the legal profession and the evolving needs of clients across different sectors and jurisdictions.

At Brodies, Julie leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for driving the firm's strategic growth, strengthening client relationships and enhancing the firm's reputation in the market.

Before joining Brodies, Julie spent more than a decade with a global law firm, holding a number of regional and international leadership roles focused on business growth, strategic development and firm-wide initiatives.

Her combination of legal, commercial and leadership expertise makes her a valued member of our judging panel.

Meet the judges behind the Scottish Legal Awards

Today we're introducing Neil Taylor, Director of the Office of the Advocate General and Solicitor to the Advocate General.

Neil has led the Office of the Advocate General since 2017, overseeing the provision of legal advice, drafting and litigation services to the UK Government in relation to Scotland. Throughout his career in public service, he has worked on some of the most significant constitutional and devolution matters of recent decades.

Under his leadership, the Office has been involved in a number of landmark cases before the Supreme Court, including references concerning the UNCRC Bill, the European Union (Legal Continuity) (Scotland) Bill and the proposed Scottish Independence Referendum Bill.

A solicitor since 1996, Neil has held a range of senior legal and legislative roles throughout his career and was recently appointed as a Legal Member of the Upper Tribunal for Scotland.

We are delighted to have Neil's extensive expertise and experience as part of the Scottish Legal Awards judging panel.

We’re pleased to introduce Martin Nolan, General Counsel & Company Secretary at Skyscanner and a member of the Scottish Legal Awards judging panel.

As General Counsel at one of the world’s leading travel technology companies, Martin oversees the legal functions of a business that supports more than 100 million users every month. In addition to leading Skyscanner’s legal team, he heads its Global Public Affairs function, helping shape policy and regulation across the UK, EU and US on issues affecting the digital economy and consumer protection.

Martin also serves on the boards of leading travel technology trade bodies in both Washington DC and Brussels, contributing to discussions on the future of the global travel sector. More recently, he has been appointed Skyscanner’s Executive Sponsor for Sustainability, leading the development and implementation of the company’s net zero strategy.

Before joining Skyscanner in 2017, Martin spent a decade in private practice as a corporate finance lawyer, specialising in private equity and mergers & acquisitions.

Bringing expertise across in-house legal leadership, public affairs, technology, sustainability and corporate finance, Martin offers a valuable perspective to the Scottish Legal Awards judging process.

Every submission is carefully assessed against the published criteria, with judges considering achievement, innovation, impact and excellence.

The process is thorough, impartial and often highly competitive, with detailed discussion taking place before finalists and winners are selected.

Bringing specialist media law expertise to our judging panel.

We’re delighted to introduce Fiona McAllister, Senior Media Lawyer at Channel 4 and a member of the Scottish Legal Awards judging panel.

As part of Channel 4’s renowned Legal & Compliance team, Fiona provides legal, compliance and ethical advice across all aspects of television programming, both broadcast and online. Her work supports the channel’s unique remit to take creative risks while maintaining the highest professional standards.

Fiona began her legal career with Burness Paull LLP, specialising in commercial litigation with a focus on media and reputational issues. She went on to gain experience through secondments with organisations including the Royal Bank of Scotland, FirstGroup plc and BBC Scotland before joining leading London media firm Simkins LLP. There, she advised clients on a wide range of media-related matters including defamation, privacy, data protection, harassment and regulatory compliance.

Since joining Channel 4 in 2019, Fiona has continued to build an impressive career and is qualified to practise in Scotland, England & Wales, and Ireland.

Alongside her professional achievements, Fiona is a passionate supporter of pro bono and charitable work. She currently serves as Chair of LawRocks, helping to promote music education for underprivileged young people, and is a former Director of LawWorks Scotland and former President of the Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association.

We are proud to have Fiona’s expertise, insight and experience helping to recognise excellence across Scotland’s legal profession.
