Commercial Law Society Edinburgh CLS Edinburgh is Scotland's first student-led organisation focused on commercial law. As our connections grow, this will continue and become ever more diverse.

Initiatives include: Mentorship Programme, Transferable Skills Workshops and Competitions. Mentorship Programme: This programme aims to connect professionals (either practising lawyers or with legal education) directly with students. Our mentors have a range of backgrounds, from regulatory compliance in investment banking to M&A. To give the programme a truly multinational feature, mentors are based in Edinburgh, London, Hong Kong and Qatar. Workshops: via our close connections from within the legal and non-legal sectors of Scotland, we are able to provide workshops led by some of the most successful and innovative start-ups, law firms, businesses and business psychologists in the UK. Competitions: Our workshops will lead to a scenario-based competition where our members can put what they have learned into practice. Our first competition, held in March this year, was judged by some pre-eminent advocates, barristers, business professionals and academics in Scotland and the UK.

Meet Slaughter and May in Edinburgh on Monday 2 November 2026!

Slaughter and May Careers is hosting two events in Edinburgh on Monday 2 November, where you will have the opportunity to meet partners, associates and trainees in person, find out more about the firm’s distinct differences, and gain valuable insights and tips into the application process for the different opportunities.

4pm – CV and Interview skills workshop – Teaching Room 09 (1.416) – Doorway 3 at Teviot

Paul Dickson, partner at Slaughter and May, will be giving a workshop with the law society to talk you through what the firm is looking for, key hints and tips on putting together your cover letter and CV and how to prepare for interviews.

6.30pm – A World of Difference presentation – The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh

At this evening presentation, you’ll be able to hear partners, associates and trainees share insights into their journey to the firm and career so far, and bring to life the firm’s distinct differences. They will also be sharing an insight into the process of training and qualifying in English law (following a Scots law degree or a non-law degree). After the presentation, you will be able to network with the firm’s representatives and find out more about their opportunities.
