It’s never too early to start paying it forward. 💜

In today’s Scotsman, Alannah Jones explores why giving back, sharing experience and supporting others can make a real difference.

Success isn’t just about what we achieve. It’s also about the opportunities, support and encouragement we give to others along the way.

A great reminder that you don’t need to wait until you’ve “made it” to start paying it forward.

📢 Just over 4 weeks to go till the second in our Personal Injury & Medical Negligence Young Lawyers Group series, aimed at supporting and connecting those with an interest in this area of practice. 📢

The group is open to law students through to solicitors with up to 5 years’ PQE who have a keen interest in personal injury and medical negligence law. We aim to create an informal but high-quality forum for learning, discussion, and networking.

📆 Our next event will take place on Thursday 27th August from 5.30–7.30pm. We will have 45 minutes of CPD with guest speaker Anne Cossar, followed by networking and drinks.

Anne is an experienced Occupational Therapist and Care Consultant who will share valuable insights into the role of occupational therapy and care assessments in personal injury and medical negligence cases.

A big thank you to our event sponsor, MedBrief, for their support in making this event possible.

MedBrief helps clinical negligence and personal injury teams work more efficiently by combining innovative technology with in-house clinical expertise. Their Early Case Assessment service helps solicitors make informed decisions at the earliest stage of a case. Mike Lewis will be in attendance and would be delighted to answer any questions about MedBrief and their services.

This event is free to attend, so reserve your spot now! 👇

We couldn't be more pleased to see our former Partner and Chairman, Elaine Motion, awarded Honorary Membership of the Law Society of Scotland – the highest honour the Society can bestow.

Having retired from Balfour+Manson a year ago, Elaine leaves an extraordinary legacy at the firm and within the Scottish legal profession. Awarded in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the public good through a legal career, this prestigious honour is a fitting tribute to her exceptional work in constitutional law, her leadership within the profession and her unwavering commitment to justice.

Elaine made an enormous contribution to Balfour+Manson throughout her distinguished career, serving as our Chairman and inspiring colleagues with her wisdom, integrity and dedication. We are immensely proud to see her receive this richly deserved recognition.

Congratulations also to Iain Jamieson, who shares this well-deserved honour 👏

Constitutional law experts Elaine Motion and Iain Jamieson have been awarded the prestigious accolade of Law Society of Scotland Honorary Membership.

It is the highest honour conferred by the Society, to recognise Scottish solicitors who've made an outstanding contribution to the public good through their legal careers – Elaine and Iain become just the 24th and 25th recipients.

Our President Serena Sutherland said: “It is an honour to confer this award on such hugely deserving candidates and I offer my congratulations to both Iain and Elaine.”

Following APIL's Injury Awareness Week, we’re reflecting on the long-term impact a personal injury can have — not only physically and emotionally, but financially too.

Where compensation has been awarded, it is important to consider how those funds can be protected and managed for the future. A personal injury trust can help safeguard compensation, support financial decision-making, and preserve entitlement to means-tested benefits.

In this article, Rebecca Taylor explains what personal injury trusts are, the different options available, and how they can help provide peace of mind after an injury.
