Getting onto the property ladder just got a little easier, but is it enough?
The Scottish Government has announced the return of the First Home Fund, offering interest-free equity loans of up to £10,000 to help first-time buyers take that all-important first step, with applications opening by end of June 2026.
Our chairman Mike Fitzgerald commented, "we're genuinely excited to see this fund return. Any initiative that helps more people into a home of their own is a step in the right direction. However, with average selling prices in Edinburgh sitting at £295,589 (right at the £300,000 scheme cap) and East Lothian already above it at £304,523, the question of who this fund genuinely helps in our local market is one worth asking."
Overall, we see this is a promising move, and we hope it's the first of many steps towards tackling housing affordability across Scotland.
If you're a first-time buyer wondering whether this scheme is right for you, we would love to have a chat and support you in any way we can.
