Have you heard about the significant changes to significant reforms to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) and parental leave rights?
From April 6, 2026:
⚠️SSP is now paid from day 1 of sickness, removing the 3-day waiting period.
⚠️The lower earnings limit for SSP has been removed, expanding eligibility.
⚠️SSP rates have increased to £123.25 per week or 80% of average weekly earnings (whichever is lower).
⚠️Paternity leave and unpaid parental leave are day 1 rights, no longer requiring minimum service.
These changes mean wider employee protections and increased responsibility for employers.
For employers, especially small to medium organisations, we recommend you review these policies as early and possible and ensure your employee contracts are clear.
Failure to address this, may result in increased costs and exposure claims. Need help with these reviews and updates?
