On the 10th October, members of our team will be taking part in The Kelpies Challenge in support of Children's Hospices Across Scotland and the More Than a Hospice Appeal.

This guided aerial adventure takes participants inside the world's largest equine sculptures. They will climb 25 metres through a route of ladders, cable crossings, suspended platforms and nets, take in panoramic views from the Kelpies' mouth, then descend by abseil or the Quick Flight rope drop.

It is a physically and mentally demanding challenge, but every penny raised helps CHAS provide care and support for children with life-shortening conditions and their families across Scotland.

Taking part from Blackadders are Sarah Taylor, Stuart King, Andy Yule and Ben Harvey.

Good luck to the team and everyone else taking part!

Featured in The Scotsman, Gillian Donald, Partner in the Employment team, examines what has been described as the biggest shake-up to trade union law in a generation.

The Employment Rights Act 2025 introduces new statutory rights for unions to access workplaces, both physically and digitally, creating significant new obligations for employers, including organisations with no previous experience of union engagement.

In the article, Gillian outlines how the access request process will operate, the tight timescales employers will be expected to meet and the limited circumstances in which a request can be refused. As she explains, a blanket refusal is unlikely to be an effective response.

She also highlights the potential financial penalties for non-compliance and the practical steps employers should be taking now to prepare.

With the new provisions expected to come into force in October 2026, now is the time to review existing arrangements, assess potential risks and ensure the right processes are in place.

As the final quarter of the year approaches, is your business ready for Q4?

Taking time now to review commercial arrangements can help prevent issues becoming more costly or disruptive later. Outstanding contracts, payment terms, renewal dates and unresolved disagreements are all worth checking before the year end.

A short legal review can help identify potential problems early, give you greater clarity and allow you to plan ahead with confidence.

Our Dispute Resolution team is on hand to provide practical advice and guidance to help protect your business as you head into the final months of the year.
