Stephanie brings extensive experience in residential property having previously led a property team in the city, and has a client base spanning first-time buyers, home movers and property investors. Debbie Brechin, also joins us in Aberdeen as a senior paralegal.

It was a privilege to join legal leaders from across the UK and Nordic region at the GREAT Legal Services roundtable in Copenhagen this week, held alongside the IBA Annual Conference at the British Embassy. Chaired by our managing partner, Lesley Larg, the discussion focused on some of the biggest topics within the profession today, including AI adoption to create value for clients, developing specialist expertise, and navigating increasingly complex cross-border matters.

What stood out was how many of the opportunities and challenges are shared across jurisdictions and the genuine willingness to exchange ideas and learn from one another.

Right to work rules are changing from 1 October 2026, at a time when Home Office enforcement against illegal working is increasing.

The changes will extend UK right to work requirements beyond traditional employees to include many other individuals providing services, such as self-employed subcontractors and people engaged through online platforms. For some businesses, this means looking beyond existing right to work checks being carried out correctly. It may also mean reviewing wider working arrangements, relevant commercial contracts and the processes used by staff responsible for procurement, contracting, recruitment and basic risk management.
