⚖️ £25,000 SEXUAL HARASSMENT SETTLEMENT

A woman working for the Department of Education has settled a sexual harassment case against her employer for £25,000.

The case, which was supported by the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland, arose after the woman reported witnessing a senior male colleague viewing images of women in various states of undress and other provocative material on his desktop computer while they were working in an open-plan office.

She said she was “shocked and disturbed” by what she witnessed and reported the matter to management, providing photographs she had taken on her mobile phone as evidence.

The case has now been settled without admission of liability.

Workplace sexual harassment is a serious matter. Employees should be able to raise concerns about inappropriate behaviour without feeling intimidated or disadvantaged for doing so.
