The Great British Bath Debate: keep it or ditch it? 🤔

Drench’s 2026 research with 250 UK estate agents found that 45% say a home without a bath could put buyers off. Yet around a third of Brits say they haven’t used theirs in over a year.

So, should you keep a bath for resale appeal and family flexibility, or design around the shower you use every day? It doesn’t have to be either/or. Depending on your layout, a shower-over-bath, or a compact bath alongside a separate walk-in shower, could give you both.

Accessible bathrooms are becoming a mainstream choice, and they don’t have to look clinical.

Houzz UK’s 2026 search trends report accessible bathroom searches up 408%, searches for showers with seats up 84%, and walk-in shower searches up 37%.*

A level-access shower, a thoughtfully placed seat or grab rails that blend with the design can help make a bathroom easier to use now and in the future. The key is planning the layout around how you actually use the room, while making it feel like home.

Friday food for thought. 💭

Nobody ever asks to see the pipework. They ask to see the tiles.

But the tiles are only around 20% of the job. The other 80% is the stuff you'll never look at again: pipework run properly, walls and floors prepared flat, the wet area tanked, the falls set correctly, the sealing done patiently.

Anyone can make a bathroom look good for the photo. We'd rather build one that's still right long after the photo's been forgotten.

So, a question for the weekend: when you look at a job, are you paying for what you can see, or for what you can't?

✨ Recently completed ensuite renovation in Derbyshire.

This compact ensuite has been given a bright, high-end finish while making every inch work harder.

The new layout includes a level-access walk-in shower with a gold-framed glass screen, rainfall head and separate handheld shower, plus a recessed niche for practical storage. A white fluted wall-hung vanity, brushed brass tap, mirrored cabinet, brass heated towel rail and close-coupled WC complete the look.

The stone-effect wall and floor tiles, tiled half-height band, painted walls and ceiling spotlights keep the room feeling light, warm and easy to maintain. The brushed brass details bring everything together beautifully.

As with every renovation we take on, the whole project was handled from start to finish under one roof, including the strip-out, plumbing and pipework, electrics, wall and floor preparation, plastering, painting, tiling, final fitting, sealing and testing.

A small ensuite, carefully planned and properly finished. We couldn’t be happier with the result.

From a dated, tired bathroom to a bright, modern space with a warm brushed-brass finish: a proper transformation. 🛁✨

THE BEFORE 🚫
The room had black lino, striped wallpaper, small square tiles, an old pedestal basin with separate taps, a close-coupled toilet and a tired shower over the bath. The ceiling, extractor and overall finish also needed attention, leaving the room feeling dark and dated.

THE AFTER 🌟
The finished bathroom now features stone-effect wall and floor tiles, brushed brass fittings throughout, a basin tap, bath filler, shower fittings, square rain head, handset, screen frame, heated towel rail, mirror and niche trim. The fluted wall-hung vanity adds storage while keeping the floor open. A new bath, clear glass screen, recessed niche, extractor, lighting and freshly decorated walls and ceiling complete the room.

WHAT WENT INTO IT 🔨
✅ Full strip-out and removal of the old suite, lino, tiles and finishes.
✅ Wall and floor preparation to create sound, level surfaces.
✅ Plumbing alterations and new pipework for the bath, basin, shower and toilet.
✅ New electrics for the lighting, illuminated mirror and extractor.
✅ Plastering and skimming to repair and prepare the walls and ceiling.
✅ Decorating walls and ceiling for a clean, durable finish.
✅ Accurate wall and floor tiling, including grouting and finishing.
✅ Full fitting, sealing, testing and final checks.
