πŸ“’ New changes to the UK Immigration Rules have been announced.

A new Statement of Changes, published on 3 September 2026, introduces a number of important updates across the immigration system.

One of the most significant changes will provide greater flexibility for Skilled Worker visa holders who are recognised as victims of modern slavery. Eligible individuals will be permitted to work in any occupation for the remaining duration of their existing visa, helping them move away from exploitative employment.

The changes also support the UK's participation in Erasmus+, expanding opportunities for eligible participants to study, train and undertake placements in the UK.

Further amendments affect the EU Settlement Scheme, Hong Kong BN(O) route, Student route and Victim of Domestic Abuse route.

At Tann Law Solicitors, our immigration team can help individuals and businesses understand changes to the Immigration Rules and how they may affect their circumstances.

More people are turning to AI tools for quick answers to legal questions.

While AI can be a useful tool for research and information gathering, it shouldn't be mistaken for legal advice. ❌️

From hallucinated case law and outdated legislation to a lack of confidentiality and accountability, there are significant risks involved in relying on AI for important legal decisions.

Every legal situation is different. What applies in one case may not apply in another, which is why personalised advice is so important.

If you're facing a legal issue, speaking to a solicitor can help you understand your options and the best way forward. πŸ‘₯

πŸ“’ Sponsor licence holders: an important change is coming to the Sponsorship Management System (SMS).

The Home Office is introducing mandatory Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all SMS users, with the phased rollout beginning on the 3rd September 2026 and expected to cover all sponsors by November 2026.

MFA will require users to enter a one-time passcode alongside their username and password when accessing the SMS.

For Level 1 Users in particular, it is important to check that the correct email address, mobile telephone number and date of birth are recorded on the licence. Level 2 Users will need to ensure their email address is correct.

Incorrect or incomplete information could cause difficulties accessing the SMS once MFA is enabled. If you hold a sponsor licence, now is the time to review your SMS account and make sure you're prepared for the changes. 🧾

Today, on World Humanitarian Day, we recognise the courage and dedication of humanitarian workers across the world. 🌍️

World Humanitarian Day recognises the aid workers, volunteers, and organisations who work tirelessly to protect lives and support people affected by conflict, disaster, and crisis.

Today is an opportunity to remember those who have lost their lives while helping others, and to thank those who continue to make a difference through compassion, resilience, and service.

Happy World Humanitarian Day. ❀️

From 1 January 2027, the standard Graduate Visa will be reduced from 2 years to 18 months.

For international students, this means less time to gain UK work experience and plan the next step in their immigration journey. It also makes planning even more important. πŸ’Ό
