❀️ NORTH SOMERSET IS WHERE WE LIVE AND WORK β€” AND WE LOVE WHAT WE DO.

Estate planning might not sound like the most exciting subject. But when you see the difference it makes to families β€” the peace of mind, the arguments avoided, the inheritance protected β€” it becomes genuinely meaningful work.

We set up our business here in North Somerset because we wanted to serve our community. Not a call centre. Not an online portal. A real person, from your area, sitting down with you at home and helping you make the right decisions for your family.

We work with all kinds of families across North Somerset and Bristol:

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ Young families writing their first Will and naming guardians for their children πŸ‘΄πŸ‘΅ Older couples setting up Lasting Powers of Attorney before they're needed 🏑 Homeowners using Property Protection Trusts to guard against care fees and sideways disinheritance πŸ’Ό People in second marriages making sure each partner's children are protected.

Whatever your situation, we'll give you honest, personal advice β€” without jargon, without pressure, and without making you feel like just another appointment in the diary.

We serve families across North Somerset, Bristol, Bath, and the surrounding area. And we come to you.

Your digital life β€” passwords, social media, cloud storage, even crypto β€” needs a plan too. It's called digital estate planning, and it's one of the most overlooked parts of writing a will.

5 Common Will Writing Mistakes
Making a Will is one of the kindest things you can do for your family β€” but small mistakes can cause big problems later. Here are five to watch out for:

Not making a Will at all – without one, the law decides who inherits, not you.
DIY or online templates – easy to get wrong, and errors often aren't spotted until it's too late.
Forgetting to update it – marriage, divorce, new children or grandchildren can all affect your wishes.
Not appointing the right executors – choosing someone unable or unwilling to act can cause delays and stress.
Overlooking guardianship – if you have young children, your Will is where you name who cares for them.

As a family-run business, we make getting your Will right simple and stress-free.

🏑 YOUR ESTATE PLANNING EXPERT β€” DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR.
There's something a little uncomfortable about sitting in a solicitor's office, trying to explain your family situation across a desk while the clock ticks.

We think estate planning deserves better than that.

That's why we don't ask you to come to us. We come to you.

At home. In your own armchair. With a cup of tea. At a time that suits your week β€” not ours.

Here's why our clients love home visits:

βœ… More relaxed β€” you're on familiar ground, which makes it easier to talk openly
βœ… More practical β€” your documents, your house deeds, your paperwork are all right there
βœ… More personal β€” you speak directly with your adviser, not a receptionist or junior member of staff
βœ… No travel β€” particularly important for older clients or those with mobility concerns
βœ… Discreet β€” your neighbours will never know your business

We help families across North Somerset, Bristol, Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Nailsea, Portishead, and the wider Somerset and Avon area.

Whether you need a Will, a Lasting Power of Attorney, a Property Protection Trust, or full estate planning advice β€” we'll sit down with you at home and make it simple.

Most clients complete everything in just two appointments. Both at home.

πŸ“ž Call us today for a free, no-obligation consultation. We'd love to come and meet you.

What is estate planning β€” and do you actually need it?
πŸ€” What is estate planning β€” and do you actually need it?
Short answer: probably, yes! And no, it's not just for the wealthy or the elderly.
Estate planning is simply about making sure YOUR wishes are followed β€” for your home, your savings, your belongings, and the people you love. It usually covers things like:
βœ… Writing a Will (so it's clear who gets what)

βœ… Setting up a Lasting Power of Attorney (so someone you trust can step in if you ever need them to)

βœ… Considering a Trust (great for protecting your home for your children)

βœ… Thinking ahead about Inheritance Tax
Here's the bit people don't always realise: if you don't have these in place, the decisions aren't left to "common sense" or what your family assumes you'd want. They're decided by fixed legal rules β€” which might not reflect your wishes at all.
The good news? Sorting it out is much simpler (and often more affordable) than people expect. We offer free, no-obligation chats β€” at your home, or online from your sofa β€” to talk through your options, no pressure attached.
If you've been meaning to "get round to it" for a while... consider this your sign. 😊

πŸ” ESTATE PLANNING MYTH VS FACT β€” LET'S BUST SOME OF THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTIONS.
There's a lot of misinformation out there about Wills, LPAs, and estate planning β€” and it stops people from taking steps that could make a real difference to their families. Let's set the record straight.

❌ MYTH: "I'm too young to need a Will or LPA." βœ… FACT: Illness, accidents, and unexpected events happen at every age. An LPA is not just for the elderly β€” accidents or serious illness can affect anyone, at any age. Healthy Aging Hub And if you have a partner, children, or any assets at all, you need a Will.

❌ MYTH: "My partner will automatically inherit everything." βœ… FACT: Only if you're married or in a civil partnership β€” and even then, not necessarily everything. Unmarried partners have no automatic right to inherit under intestacy rules, no matter how long they've been together. Ukcalculator Without a Will, they could receive nothing.

❌ MYTH: "If I have a Will, I don't need an LPA." βœ… FACT: A Will only comes into effect after death. An LPA protects you during your lifetime Alcedo Live-In Care β€” covering who manages your finances and healthcare if you lose capacity. They serve completely different purposes.

❌ MYTH: "My family can sort things out between themselves." βœ… FACT: Without a Will or LPA, your family may have no legal authority to act β€” and may face months of court proceedings just to access bank accounts or make medical decisions on your behalf.

❌ MYTH: "Estate planning is only for wealthy people." βœ… FACT: If you own a home, have savings, or have people who depend on you, estate planning matters β€” whatever the size of your estate. In fact, families with modest assets often have the most to lose without proper planning.

❌ MYTH: "It's too complicated and expensive." βœ… FACT: With the right adviser, it's simpler and more affordable than most people expect. We do it all at home, at a time that suits you, in plain English.
Any myths we've missed? Drop them in the comments and we'll tackle them!

βš–οΈ SPECIALIST ESTATE PLANNER VS SOLICITOR β€” WHICH IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
It's one of the most common questions we get. And it deserves an honest answer.
Both can write your Will. But there are some important differences:

Specialist Estate Planner:
βœ… Focus: Wills, LPAs, PPTs, estate planning
βœ… Turnaround: Typically faster
βœ… Cost: Usually more competitive
βœ… Home visits: Yes β€” we come to you
βœ… Personal service: Direct with your adviser

High Street Solicitor:
- Focus: Broad legal practice
- Turnaround: Can be slower
- Cost: Often hourly billing
- Home visits: Rarely
- Personal service: May involve multiple staff

As specialist Will writers and estate planners, everything we do is focused on protecting your family's future. We're not generalists. We live and breathe estate planning β€” Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Property Protection Trusts, and estate planning advice β€” every single day.

That means you get deep expertise, personal attention, and a service built around you β€” not squeezed between property conveyancing and employment disputes.

When might you need a solicitor instead? If your estate is genuinely complex β€” a contested inheritance, a business dispute, or cross-border assets β€” a solicitor with specialist probate experience may be appropriate. We'll always tell you honestly if that's the case.

But for the vast majority of families across North Somerset and Bristol, a specialist estate planner is the right choice.

πŸ“ž Not sure which you need? Give us a call for a free, no-obligation chat β€” no pressure, just honest advice.

🏑 NORTH SOMERSET HOMEOWNERS β€” HERE'S WHY YOUR WILL MIGHT NOT BE ENOUGH.

You've worked hard for your home. You want it to go to the right people when you're gone. And you probably think your Will takes care of that.

But it may not β€” and here's why.

The average home in North Somerset is worth Β£310,000. If you leave your share outright to your surviving partner, they become the sole owner. That sounds fine. Until:
πŸ”΄ They remarry β€” and their new partner's family inherits everything
πŸ”΄ They need residential care β€” with average care home fees around Β£1,298 per week for residential care, a North Somerset home could be significantly depleted in just a few years
πŸ”΄ They change their Will β€” and your children receive nothing

This is called sideways disinheritance β€” and it's far more common than most people realise.

A Property Protection Trust (PPT) solves this.

Written into your Will, a PPT:

βœ… Ring-fences your share of the home for your chosen beneficiaries
βœ… Gives your partner the legal right to remain in the property for life
βœ… Means only your partner's share is considered in any care fee assessment
βœ… Cannot be undone by remarriage or a change of Will

It's one of the most powerful estate planning tools available β€” and it's available to married couples, civil partners, and cohabiting couples alike.

We help North Somerset families put PPTs in place simply and affordably, in the comfort of their own homes.

WHAT IS A PROPERTY PROTECTION TRUST β€” AND DOES YOUR FAMILY NEED ONE?

If you own your home, a Property Protection Trust (PPT) could be one of the most important steps you take to protect your family's future.

Here's the problem it solves:
When one partner dies, their share of the home typically passes to the surviving partner. That sounds fine β€” until that partner remarries, goes into care, or changes their Will. Suddenly, the children from the first relationship could end up with nothing. This is called "sideways disinheritance" β€” and it happens more often than most people realise.

A PPT prevents this. It's a Life Interest Trust written into your Will that allows your surviving partner to continue living in the home for the rest of their life β€” while ring-fencing your share of the property for your chosen beneficiaries.

βœ… Your partner keeps the right to stay in the home
βœ… Your share cannot be redirected if they remarry
βœ… Only the surviving partner's share of the property may be considered in any care fee assessment
βœ… You don't have to be married β€” cohabiting couples can benefit too

PPTs are particularly valuable for couples with children from previous relationships, anyone concerned about future care costs, and homeowners across North Somerset and Bristol who want to make sure their property reaches the people they love.

πŸ“ž We offer free, no-obligation consultations β€” in your home, at a time that suits you. Get in touch to find out if a PPT is right for your circumstances.
