This week we celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week with a DLC scavenger hunt across Chesterfield. Teams took to the streets in search of clues, and after an incredible 134,396 steps—and some very wet staff— team Gary’s Angels came out on top!

It was a fantastic way to show our support for Mental Health Awareness Week, while also recognising and appreciating our staff for their hard work and commitment to our local community.

On Saturday our own Lisa Haythorne celebrated twenty years of working at Derbyshire Law Centre.

Over that time, the organisation has been transformed, with our housing litigation team growing from just two to now over 13, our total number of staff employed across the organisation tripling, and the range of areas of law we cover and projects we manage expanding to meet the needs of our community.

Lisa has been witness to those changes and a part of that journey every step of the way, and now as our senior solicitor, she is at the helm as the law centre seeks to navigate the next two decades.

We wish her a hearty congratulations on achieving such a momentous milestone, and hope she enjoys many more years working at the law centre.

DLC are pleased to announce the launch of a new project funded by Derbyshire County Council.

The project will support people affected by domestic abuse to stay in, or return safely to, their homes, and to feel safe while continuing to live there. We have appointed Stephen Haythorne to lead and manage this project on behalf of DLC.

Stephen is a very experienced solicitor who also regularly sits as a Deputy District Judge in the Civil, Private Family Law and First Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) jurisdictions. Supported by our paralegal team, Stephen has already begun work on the project and we are delighted to have him join the team.

We’re delighted to share that Derbyshire Law Centre has once again successfully passed its Lexcel Annual Maintenance Visit.

This achievement reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence in client care, compliance, and practice management. Thank you to our assessor for their time, and to all our staff and volunteers for their cooperation during the assessment and for their hard work over the past year in maintaining the highest professional standards.

This week we’re proud to celebrate neurodiversity and the strengths, perspectives and talents that neurodivergent people bring to our workplace and communities.

We’re also pleased to share that we now have a new interview room designed with easier access and special lighting, to better support clients, volunteers and staff with access or neurodiversity needs.

A huge thank you to our staff and volunteers for their thoughtful engagement and for so generously sharing their lived experiences over coffee and cake — your openness helps build understanding, inclusion and positive change.

We are looking for an Executive Support and Governance Administrator to join our dedicated Admin Team.

You will provide essential administrative and typing support to the Law Centre, helping maintain efficiency, accuracy, and professionalism across all operations.

This is a full time, 35 hour per week post, with excellent benefits including 32 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata) and 8% employer pension contribution.
