Monday Myth "Giving away my assets always avoids Inheritance Tax.

The Reality: Giving assets or money away can sometimes form part of wider estate planning, but it's not as simple as giving something away and automatically removing it from your estate for Inheritance Tax purposes.

The timing, value and circumstances surrounding a gift can all matter.

And there can be other considerations too, including what happens if you later need care or if your financial circumstances change.

That's why it's important not to make significant gifts based on assumptions or something you've heard from someone else.

Good estate planning is about looking at the bigger picture and understanding our options before making decisions.

If you're considering making gifts as part of your estate planning, we're happy to help you understand what questions you should be asking.

What our clients say about Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Arranging a Lasting Power of Attorney can raise lots of questions.

Who should you appoint? What decisions can they make? And what happens once the paperwork is completed?

That's why we believe clear, straightforward advice is so important.

"From our initial meeting right through to the completion of documentation Phill was very knowledgeable, explained things clearly and answered all questions. Would highly recommend."

Thank you to our clients for taking the time to share their experience.

Our aim is always to make the process as straightforward and reassuring as possible, so you understand exactly what you're putting in place.

If you've been thinking about arranging an LPA but aren't sure where to start, we're always happy to have a conversation.

For many couples, planning for the future is something they want to do together.

That's why Mirror Wills are such a popular choice.

They allow each partner to make similar Wills, often leaving everything to each other first, before setting out what should ahppen to their estate in the future.

Mirror Wills can provide reassurance that you're both making plans that reflect your shared wishes while still allowing each person to have their own individual Will.

If you're recently married, bought a home together or started a family, it could be the ideal time to consider putting Mirror Wills in place.

After all, planning for the future is often easier when you do it together.

Your Will sets out what you'd like to happen to your estate.

But a Letter of Wishes can help explain the why.

While it isn't a legally binding document, it allows you to leave additional guidance for your executors or trustees about things that matter to you.

For example, you may wish to include:
• Personal messages for loved ones
• Guidance for those caring for young children
• Funeral preferences
• Explanations behind certain decisions
• Your wishes for personal possessions

Because sometimes it's the personal details that can provide the greatest comfort and clarity.

A Letter of Wishes can also be updated more easily as circumstances change, without needing to rewrite your Will.

Monday Myth - "Inheritance Tax only affects millionaires."

It's a common misconception that Inheritance Tax is only something the very wealthy need to think about.

In reality, whether it applies depends on your individual circumstances, the value of your estate and the allowances available.

That's why it's worth understanding how the rules could affect you rather than assuming they won't.

Planning ahead can help you make informed decisions, protect more of your estate where appropriate, and ensure your wishes are clearly documented.

If you're unsure whether Inheritance Tax is something you should be considering, we're always happy to explain your options in clear, straightforward language.

Monday Myth - "Once I've written my Will, I never need to update it."

Writing your Will is an important milestone, but it's not necessarily something you do once and never think about again.

As life changes, your Will should be reviewed to make sure it still reflects your wishes and your current circumstances.

It may be time to review your Will if you've:
• Got married or divorced
• Had children or grandchildren
• Bought or sold a property
• Started or sold a business
• Lost a loved one
• Seen changes in your financial circumstances
• Changed your mind about who you'd like to benefit

Even if nothing significant has changed, it's good practice to review your Will every few years to ensure it still does exactly what you want it to.

A Will that was right for your life ten years ago may not be the right Will for your life today.

If it's been a while since you last looked at yours, a simple review could give you confidence that everything is still up to date.
