When I first started working in frontline social work many years ago, it was incredibly rare to meet someone who had reached the remarkable age of 100. I still remember the first woman I met who had achieved this milestone—not only that, but she was still living independently in the community, which was even more unusual at the time.
Fast forward to today, and it’s no longer so uncommon to meet people celebrating their 100th birthday. I recently had the privilege of meeting a client who is 106!!! She is now the oldest client I have ever met.
One of the things I love about social work is spending time with clients, listening to their stories, and learning about the lives they’ve lived. 😊
