In almost 30 years working in family law, the legal system, lawyers and clients have all changed almost beyond recognition. And so have I.
Now,

Today is a historic day. Couples can divorce (jointly or separately) without having to find any reason, other than the relationship is over.

This is something that has been campaigned for, for decades.

No longer will people need a lawyer or legal knowledge. Do it yourself and keep control.

I was so impressed this morning.

The Family Team at Withers Worldwide (one of the very best firms) has posted a video on their website about the changing legal landscape - and working with couples, to create solutions focussed on their needs as a couple moving forward in their separate lives.

This is exactly the type of work I love to do. Working with a couple to identify their needs and the best way to build solutions.

This is a much kinder, quicker and more cost-effective way to separate than the traditional lawyer and court led process.

Five years ago Essex Family Law was created. In that time so many things have changed (working remotely and almost paperless, video and telephone hearings and meetings ) and yet the core objective remains the same.

Work with clients to find solutions for the issues that are important to them. And then follow up with the legal work needed to put those solutions into effect.

The focus is on out of court ways of dealing with issues and a team work approach with other lawyers, financial advisors, counsellors and mediators.

Collaborative practice gives so many opportunities to deal with things in a kind, compassionate, supportive and holistic way.
