Blended families bring unique dynamics, and your estate plan should reflect that.

Many couples choose mirror wills, thinking they’re the simplest solution… but they don’t always protect everyone you care about.

In some cases, children from previous relationships could be unintentionally left out.

In this blog, Ian Nicholson from Beaulieu Wills and Estate Planning explains:
Why mirror wills can fall short
The risks to be aware of
How to better protect your loved ones

Planning properly now can prevent difficult situations later.

What would happen if you suddenly couldn’t make decisions for yourself?

It’s something many of us don’t like to think about, but it can happen at any age due to illness, accident, or unexpected health issues.

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) ensures that someone you trust is legally able to step in and support you if you’re unable to make decisions yourself.

With an LPA in place, your chosen person(s) can:

Manage your bank accounts, bills, and financial affairs
Make decisions about your health and medical care
Speak to professionals on your behalf when needed
Ensure your wishes are followed when it matters most

Without an LPA, even close family members may not automatically have the legal authority to act for you. This can lead to delays, added stress, and lengthy legal processes at an already difficult time.

An LPA isn’t just something to consider later in life; it’s about being prepared, protecting your independence, and giving yourself and your loved ones peace of mind right now.

Planning ahead means less uncertainty for those you care about most.

Choosing the right executor is just as important as writing your Will.

Ask yourself
Do you trust them?
Are they organised and reliable?
Can they handle financial matters?

Tip: You can choose more than one executor for support.

Most people think making a Will can wait, but life doesn’t always go to plan.

Without a will:
The law decides who gets what
Your loved ones may face unnecessary stress and delays
Your wishes might not be followed

A Will gives you control, clarity, and peace of mind.

Why do so many of us put off writing a Will?

It’s something we know we should do… yet it keeps slipping down the to-do list.

This blog explores the real reasons behind that delay – from discomfort around talking about death, to the belief that “there’s always time later”, and even confusion about the process or cost.

But here’s the reality: putting it off can leave your loved ones facing uncertainty, stress, and decisions you’d have wanted to make yourself.

Writing a Will isn’t about expecting the worst.
It’s about protecting the people and things that matter most.

If writing a Will has been on your list for a while, this might be your sign to stop waiting.
