Tomorrow, our newly promoted Head of Property, Shaun Martin, is taking on an incredible (and highly questionable!) physical challenge: a 26.2-mile marathon between 8 local pubs, enjoying a pint at each stop along the way.
Shaun is running "Shaun’s Beer Marathon" to raise vital funds for Team Evie, a phenomenal charity that supports sick children and their families. He is undertaking this challenge in honour of close friends whose twin daughters received vital support from the charity during their difficult first few weeks.
Shaun has set a fundraising target of £1,250, and he is currently sitting at £1,121—so close to the finish line!
We are incredibly proud of Shaun's dedication to the community, and we would love to see him smash his target before he sets off from The Crown tomorrow at 12 noon. He'll be making his way through Warwick, Hayton, Brampton, Irthington, Crosby, and finally finishing at West Walls Brewery in Carlisle around 8 PM. If you spot him, give him a cheer!

We are looking for a property fee earner to join our experienced team in either our Carlisle or Penrith Office.
The ideal candidate should have:
• At least 2 years' experience within a similar role;
• Strong knowledge of residential property transactions (knowledge of commercial property transactions would also be advantageous);
• Excellent time management and self-motivation; and
• Be comfortable working within a team.

Scott Duff and Co were saddened to hear about the immediate closure of Butterworths Solicitors and the wider P M Law yesterday. Our thoughts are with all staff, clients and parties affected by the news.

We understand that clients old and new may have questions and concerns, and we would direct them to the SRA website for a more detailed breakdown of the process following firm closure.

The SRA will most likely nominate an alternative firm to act on ongoing matters and store information such as historical files, property deeds and Wills. You should receive correspondence direct informing you of this in due course.

In the meantime, for existing clients, the process does differ depending on the area of law. Those involving ongoing negotiations and legal cases may need to be reviewed and referred before they can progress.

Clients in the midst of a property transaction may be able to instruct another firm to take over the file straight away, but the extent of information P M Law can share and timeframes for this are currently unknown.

The big news this week is the Government's announcement to introduce a cap on and the abolishment of new flats, with the return of .

Eden developed an interest in complex Leasehold while working for a Southern firm, where she was exposed to high rise flats and the legal issues that stack up alongside them. She says "While I may have returned to my Northern roots and spend most days tackling legal enquiries more commonly associated with rural properties, I have maintained my interest in the whole spectrum of Conveyancing, and love sharing that knowledge with other local lawyers or translating the legal jargon in to digestible articles our clients and agents can understand".
