A measure published on 15 March 2023 provides that separating spouses or civil partners be given:

up to three years, after the year they cease to live together, to make no gain or no loss transfers of assets
unlimited time when the assets are the subject of a formal divorce agreement.
It also introduces some special rules that apply to individuals who have maintained a financial interest in their former family home following separation and that apply when that home is eventually sold.

HMRC says that this makes the process fairer for those spouses who are separating or divorcing and are in process of distributing assets between themselves.

- Removal of the ability to contest or defend a divorce (so if one of you wants out, its gonna happen)
- Irretrievable breakdown will be the sole ground for divorce. (removal of the blame game or the long wait)

"The two-stage legal process of decree nisi and decree absolute will be retained. A minimum timeframe of six months will be introduced, from petition stage to final divorce"

when will we see this? 'as soon as parliamentary time allows' - hmmm (presumably after Brexit is resolved!)
