The holiday season is fast approaching ☀️ ⛴️ ✈️ 🏝️ 🥤 🍦 🏊‍♀️ 🕶️

Finding the right time to talk about important things with your partner can be difficult. Life seems to be so busy and hectic. A good time to start a conversation about your Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney might be when you're on holiday and have the time to talk, uninterrupted by the demands of work and the stresses of everyday life.
OKAY, so you might think talking about the prospect of something awful happening to one of you would put a bit of a dampener on your holiday. However, it could prove to be one of the most important conversations you'll ever have...

They had fame, fortune, and access to the best advisors. Yet Prince, Amy Winehouse, and Liam Payne all died without a Will—leaving their loved ones to pick up the pieces. 💔

The consequences speak for themselves:

🎸 Prince – $156m estate, 6 years of legal battles, family fractured

🎤 Amy Winehouse – £2.9m estate passed only to parents. Partner? Nothing. Brother? Nothing. Charities she loved? Nothing .

👶 Liam Payne – £24m estate passes to his 8-year-old son at 18. His partner at death? No legal entitlement

The hard truth: If you die without a Will, the law decides—not you. Unmarried partners are excluded. Children inherit at 18 with no protection. Distant relatives you never met could take everything .

A professionally drafted Will gives you control, protects your loved ones, and prevents years of costly disputes.

You may not be as wealthy as the celebrities but the same consequences apply to you if you die without a Will.

Who would like to reduce stress for your loved ones?

A clear will reduces the burden and confusion for loved ones during a difficult time, providing clear instructions for executors.
If you die without a will (intestate), your estate could pass to relatives you did not intend, or in the case of no relatives, to the Crown.

Did you know that only 54% of people in the UK have a Will and only 24% have Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Take control of your affairs and don’t let the courts make your decisions for you. It’s not as frightening as you may think.

Making a Will doesn’t need to be complicated — but it does need to be done properly. Follow these essential steps to make sure your wishes are legally protected:

1️⃣ Choose who will benefit from your estate (your beneficiaries).
2️⃣ Appoint Executors — the people who will carry out your wishes.
3️⃣ If you have young children, appoint Guardians to care for them.
4️⃣ Decide what assets go where — from property to personal belongings.
5️⃣ Sign and witness your Will correctly (this is where many DIY Wills fail).

💡 A professional Willwriter ensures every step is legally sound and tailored to you — no guesswork, no costly mistakes.

👉 Find your nearest IPW member and protect your loved ones today.

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is one of the most important legal documents that you can have to use during your lifetime.

This is the document whereby you nominate a trusted person (family member or friend) who will be able to step in legally and have authority to make decisions on your behalf during a situation where you are unable to do so yourself.

There are two main types of LPA:
- Property and Finance
- Health and Welfare

A Lasting Power of Attorney can be used multiple times during your lifetime, as they are not only produced for when a person loses mental capacity. They could be used if the donor (the person who the LPA is for) was in hospital for a prolonged stay, has had an accident or is injured in some way, have gone abroad or situations where they are struggling to cope such as with grief.

If you would like some more information on Lasting Power of Attorney documents you can email [email protected] or give Norma a call on 07946 751911

The holiday season will soon be upon us. Do you have your checklist?

Make sure the passports aren’t out of date ✅
Get any necessary vaccinations ✅
Book the taxi from the airport ✅
Buy travel insurance ✅
Get my foreign currency ✅
Pack the sun cream (or the umbrella if you’re staying in the UK!) ✅

Make a Will ✅or ❎

Taking a holiday always involves a small risk which is why people take out travel insurance.
Think of making a Will in the same way - you have it, you probably won’t need it, but it’s there just in case.

Give us a call for an informal, no obligation chat on 07946 751911 or drop us an email [email protected]

Once it’s done you can forget about it, relax and enjoy your break ✈️ ⛴️ 🚗 🍹☀️ 🏊

We know you’ve been eagerly awaiting part 2…. So here it is:

The Joy of Power (a.k.a. Choosing an Executor)
An executor is the lucky individual who gets to deal with your affairs once you’ve popped off. Choose wisely, as they’ll be the ones making sure your final wishes are carried out. Some key considerations:
• Pick someone responsible. If your mate Dave still owes you a fiver from 2003, he’s probably not the best choice.
• Think about their stress levels. Your sibling who cries over missing a turn in Monopoly? Maybe not.

When Should You Write a Will?
Now.
Yes, right now.
Even if you think you’re too young, too broke, or too immortal—if you own anything at all (including that 2008 laptop in your attic), it’s worth sorting out.
Plus, it’s surprisingly affordable, quick, and painless (unlike assembling IKEA furniture).

The Final Goodbye
Once your will is written, store it somewhere safe—NOT under the mattress, inside a cereal box, or on an old USB drive labelled “DO NOT OPEN.” Make sure someone trusted knows where to find it.
