An LPA might be something you’ve heard of, but do you know what it is?

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) allows you to choose someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf, if you’re unable to make them yourself.

There are two types of LPA:

Property & Financial Affairs
This covers things such as money, property and financial decisions

Health & Welfare
This covers decisions about your care, treatment and welfare.

Putting an LPA in place means you can decide who you would want to help you, rather than potentially leaving your loved ones to make an application to the Court of Protection to become a Deputy, if you lose mental capacity.

Don’t forget, an LPA is only valid during your lifetime. Your Will, then takes over and handles what should happen to your estate after your death.

Do I need a will yet?

There is a big misconception that you only need a Will when you’re much older? That’s not true. Making a Will and putting LPAs in place are two of the most important steps you can take to protect yourself and your loved ones.

But what really is a Will?
A Will sets out what you want to happen to your estate after your death. It allows you to choose who will manage your estate, who you want to benefit from it and can include important wishes such as gifts, guardianship and funeral arrangements.

Having a Will can give you and your loved ones peace of mind, knowing that your wishes will be respected and helping to reduce the risk of confusion or family disputes after you’re gone.

Giving back to our local community is something we're passionate about here at Southerns.

Recently, members of our team and their families took part in the Derian House Colour Run in Chorley, raising £190 for an incredible cause. It was a fantastic day filled with plenty of colour, laughter and team spirit as we tackled the 1.5km course together.

Derian House Children's Hospice provides vital care and support to more than 400 babies, children and young people across the North West, as well as their families. Their services are provided free of charge, making fundraising events like this so important to help them continue their remarkable work.

A huge well done to everyone who took part and supported the event. We're proud to have played a small part in helping such an inspiring charity, and judging by the smiles (and the amount of coloured paint!), we think this might become an annual tradition for the team. 💛🧡💚💙💜❤️
