🚶‍♀️ Week 4 of Our June Walking Challenge! 🚶‍♂️

Our Court of Protection team has been taking on the challenge of walking 60 miles each throughout June in support of Dementia UK.

We're delighted to share that, thanks to a very generous donation from the Directors of Waddington and Son, our fundraising total has reached an incredible £1,125 – far exceeding anything we hoped to achieve! 💙

We're also so close to completing our walking target, with a fantastic 466.34 collective miles walked so far. That means we have just 13.66 miles left to reach our overall goal! 👏

Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. We really appreciate every penny and every donation helps Dementia UK continue providing vital support to families affected by dementia.

If you'd like to help us raise even more for this wonderful cause, we'd be incredibly grateful for your support.

🎉 Waddington & Son Corporate Day 2026 🎉

Each year, we celebrate our incorporation with a dedicated company day out. It's our way of thanking our fantastic team for their hard work, commitment, and dedication throughout the year.

Last Friday, the Directors closed the offices so that everyone could spend time together away from the workplace, strengthening relationships and creating lasting memories.

The day began at Urban Playground in Manchester, where the team took on The Cube, testing their skills, teamwork, and competitive spirit. In the afternoon, we headed to Immersive Gamebox for another exciting challenge before rounding off the day with pizza, drinks, and plenty of laughter.

A brilliant day of team bonding, fun, and friendly competition. Thank you to everyone for making Waddington & Son such a great place to work!

After only two weeks, the team has collectively walked over 200 miles and raised a whopping £728! This week we are planning a team walk to chat about progress and get our steps in together.

The money we are raising can fund life-changing resources, including advanced medical equipment and support families impacted by someone with dementia through support groups.

The generosity and support we've received has exceeded all expectations. Together as a team, we will continue walking for Dementia UK, Inspired by the incredible encouragement and kindness shown every step of the way

⚖️ When does a Deputy’s role end and an Executor’s role begin? 📜
As we take part in Dementia UK Walk Month, we're not only raising funds for a fantastic cause, but also sharing information that can help families navigate important legal matters during challenging times.
For many families affected by dementia, understanding who can make decisions and when those responsibilities change is essential.
👉 A Deputy is appointed by the Court of Protection to make decisions for someone who lacks mental capacity. Their role exists during that person's lifetime and must always be carried out in their best interests, under supervision of the Court of Protection and Office of the Public Guardian
👉 An Executor is appointed in a Will and takes over after a person has passed away. They are responsible for administering the estate, paying debts and taxes, and distributing assets according to the Will/ intestacy laws.
While these roles can sometimes involve the same individual, they are very different legal responsibilities, and a Deputy's authority ends when the person dies.
As we walk this month in support of Dementia UK, we're reminded of the importance of planning ahead and ensuring the right arrangements are in place for loved ones.
Every donation helps support families affected by dementia and the specialist Admiral Nurses who provide expert guidance when it's needed most.

💙 Supporting Dementia UK This June 💙

As part of our fundraising campaign for Dementia UK, Waddington & Son Solicitors will donate £10 for every Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) instruction received during June.

A Lasting Power of Attorney is an important legal document that allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf should you become unable to do so in the future. There are two types of LPA:

🏡 Property & Financial Affairs LPA – covering matters such as banking, bills, property and investments.

❤️ Health & Welfare LPA – covering decisions about your care, medical treatment and daily wellbeing.

Having an LPA in place provides peace of mind for you and your loved ones, ensuring your wishes are respected and that those closest to you can support you when needed.

By instructing us to prepare your LPA this June, you will not only be planning for the future but also helping us support the incredible work of Dementia UK and their specialist Admiral Nurses, who provide expert guidance to families affected by dementia.
