Yesterday, at Windsor Castle, Phil Spencer was awarded an MBE by His Majesty King Charles III.
And I couldn’t be prouder to call him my business partner.
Most of the country knows Phil as the trusted face of UK property — twenty-plus years guiding people through the biggest decisions of their lives, always straight, always honest. But this honour wasn’t for any of that. It was for charitable services: more than a decade of quiet, committed work as a patron of St Mungo’s, supporting people facing homelessness.
That detail matters.
Because you don’t receive an MBE for being well-known. You receive one for who you are when the cameras are off — for showing up, year after year, for causes that will never trend and never pay you back. That’s the Phil I know.
When I built Lodges & Caravans For Sale — the UK’s first national marketplace dedicated to the private resale of holiday lodges and static caravans — I wasn’t chasing a famous name to stick on a website. I was looking for a partner whose values matched the reason I started this in the first place: fairness, transparency, and treating ordinary people properly.
Our platform charges private sellers zero commission. No hidden fees. No profiting from people at the very moment they’re trying to sell something they’ve worked hard for. Doing right by people — that’s the whole point. And it’s exactly why Phil chose to join the board as an equity partner. It was never a logo deal. He believed in it.
So when I say Phil Spencer MBE thoroughly deserved this, I mean every word. The same integrity His Majesty recognised yesterday is the integrity Phil brings to our business every single day.
