Proposed changes to the UK’s current redundancy rules are fast approaching and are on the final step towards becoming law. These changes could mean extra protection for new parents and carers, including rights to more paid leave and an extension to the current protection period from redundancy, which currently stops at the end of additional maternity leave or (if earlier) when the employee returns to work after pregnancy. The demand for reform in this area of legislation follows from new research carried out by the Equality and Human Rights Commission which has shown that one in nine mums have either been dismissed, made redundant or have been led to resign following poor treatment on their return to the workplace. If you are an employee who would like to know what these new rights could mean for you or an employer who requires advice on how to implement these adaptions to your workforce, please call us on 0117 290 0905 or visit our website for more information on how Patch Law can help you.
