But Christmas child arrangements are something separated parents should be thinking about now, not when the Christmas decorations are already going up.

If you haven’t agreed where your children will spend Christmas, when they’ll see each parent, or how holidays and travel will work, don’t wait until December to sort it out.

We know… it’s only September 🎃
Halloween hasn’t even happened yet, and Christmas feels a long way away.

But if you haven’t yet agreed Christmas child arrangements, now is the time to start thinking about them. 🎄

Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for separated families, and trying to resolve arrangements at the last minute can add unnecessary stress.

Whether you need to:
Attend mediation
Speak to a family law solicitor
Try to reach an agreement directly
Or, if necessary, make an application to the court
Don’t leave it until December.

Starting high school is a big milestone for any child.

For separated parents, it can also become a significant point of disagreement.

What if one parent wants the local comprehensive, while the other wants a different school?

Or one parent wants a school closer to them?

Or the preferred school would mean a longer journey and changes to existing child arrangements?

Where parents with parental responsibility cannot agree on an important decision about their child’s education, it may be necessary to consider a Specific Issue Order.

The Family Court can be asked to determine the particular issue in dispute.

The question is not simply:

❌ “Which parent has the better argument?”

The court’s paramount consideration is the child’s welfare.

And when it comes to major decisions — including a proposed change of school — parents with PR should communicate and seek agreement where appropriate.
