📢 The £1 billion ‘Good Growth Fund,’ launched by Mayor Andy Burnham, has been unanimously welcomed as a transformative initiative for Greater Manchester's economy. The fund will unlock over 30 high-impact projects, with an initial £400 million earmarked to deliver 3,000 new homes, 22,000 jobs, and 2 million sq ft of commercial space.
The investment is projected to create up to 12,000 construction jobs 👷 and catalyse £1.3 billion in private capital across districts like Salford, Oldham, and Wigan.
Key projects include:
✔️ Repurposing Manchester’s Kendals building
✔️ £26 million for 382 homes at Trafford Wharf
✔️ £17.1 million for Bolton’s Wingates development
✔️ £41.3 million for Stockport 8 (1,300 new homes).
The strategy also supports Manchester United’s Old Trafford regeneration, which includes 15,000 new homes and a 100,000-seat stadium.
Complementing the regional transport strategy, this investment is a critical step towards achieving a £38 billion economic growth forecast by 2035. The first funding phase is scheduled for GMCA approval soon.
